I got my lasik eye surgery!!
 
I finally did it! My eyes were really bad, you know that big ol E in bold- Couldn't even see that!!

I had my surgery on the 17th- I took that day off and Friday. Thursday after the surgery I went home and rested, DH had to wake me up every 3 hours to put drops in.

I will say this, if you are thinking about getting it DO IT it is so worth it! I have worn glasses and contacts my whole life pretty much- When I was about 9 I started wearing glasses!

The procedure is pretty scary- I'm not going to lie. Just make sure you research your Dr!!

Since my eyes were so bad, and I have abnormal pupil size- I wont be able to get 20/20, it is pretty much like I have my contacts on, the Dr said as they heel my vision might get better!!

The type I had was the custom laser- PRK (PhotoRefractive Keratectomy).

In the end it was all worth it. I am not use to it yet- I still go to take my contacts out- LOL

That is so great! I have people in my family that got it and are so happy. I have considered if but for now rotate between contacts and glasses.

I am considering it myself and know someone who has had it done and couldn't be more happy. I got her doctor's name and will in the future go to him and see if I am a good candidate.

I am like you in that I have been wearing glasses since I was about 9, too. I still remember putting on my first eyeglasses and being in awe how everything was supposed to look! It's good to know there are others who are happy with their outcome!!:)

My DH had it done to, but he had his about 10 years ago. He has never had any problems and can see great! I have been putting it off for a while, I am so glad I did it!! It really is amazing!

We all know how much contacts, glasses and eye apts add up!!

Wow!! Good to know. I am considering it for the future, but don't currently have the money to do it. My eye sight is fairly bad. I can see the big letter E tho LOL... I think I can usually read the first four rows and then it begins getting blurry. I only wear glasses when I drive or watch TV/movies tho. I am near-sighted (I think?)... I can't see things far away.

Anyways it would be really nice to have my vision clearer... but I am definitely scared messing with my eyes.

Ya it is pretty scary- Trust me! LOL You just have to research your Dr read reviews and all that!! Luckily we have some really good Dr's out there- you just have to find them.

I went to the Laser Eye Center- not sure if where else they are besides Calif but they are pretty big, they have done millions of surgery's.

They also do financing, they have Care Credit LOL :D

Awesome:)! My sister had that done and is SO happy to not have to search for her glasses when she wakes up in the morning:D

I'd love to do it. I barely passed the eye test this time when I renewed my drivers license:o WITH my glasses:eek: Time for new ones, but no money right now.

That is great! Thank goodness I have always had really good vision... I bet it's so nice to be able to see without contacts or glasses :D

I am so happy for you ;) i have the onset of cataracts but not bad enough to take them off yet, i still go for check ups every year

What do you mean by abnormal pupil size? I'm curious because my daughter, age 21, is extremely near-sighted and her pupils have always been large compared to mine, for as long as I can remember.

I'd love to get lasik too...but I'm such a chicken. If they could knock me out & do it, I'd be fine :D

To wake up and see, to swim and see...must be amazing! Glad your surgery was a success!

What was your rx before the Lasik? I have extremely bad near sightedness, -11.5. I started wearing glasses in 2nd grade and contacts at 4th grade. My eyes are so bad that without glasses or contacts if viewing something, it needs to be so close to my eye that both eyes can't focus at the same time.

I've never even done a consult bc my optometrist says if I do it, I'll still be at about a -3 to -5 if I'm lucky. Still needing glasses/contacts. So why pay all that money to do it if I still have to wear glasses or contacts.

Congratulations... good for you! I had Lasik 12 years ago, my eyes were -5, and I also wore glasses/contacts since 3rd grade. It was life changing for me to be able to see, and one of the best things I ever did for myself. I do wear reading glasses now for close work, but very mild over the counter kind, like a 1.50.

My mom wants to do this. Me, I like my glasses. (even though I forget them everywhere and usually don't wear them) what happens during the procedure? What did you feel and why was it so scary?

I like the look of glasses, that is if they're not coke bottle glasses, like on Tina Fey (she's adorable). My glasses are so thick that they have to do a special cut on the sides to fit in the frames. They are like literally +1/2" thick.

Thanks!! I still cant throw them out, I still have 6 pairs of contacts too- those things are expensive I cant throw them out haha

Aw thank you! I agree with your sister haha it is pretty annoying!! If you do it, it is the best things ever!!

LOL Not sure, that is what the Laisk Dr said and that is what my eye Dr said! I guess it just means my pupil's are larger than normal :confused:

Its pretty scary, but it is a short procedure- plus some give you a Xanax haha

Hmm I know my right was about -3.75 I dont remember what my left was, but I know it was bad! I started wearing glasses about 6ish . My eyes are so bad I cant see the big E on the eye test!!

My glasses are pretty thick too haha! Sucks doesnt it!?

Hm Who told you that you would need glasses or contacts? I would at least get a second opinion!! I went to the Laser Eye Center- I know they have one in Orange County- You should check it out..

I agree- I am still catching myself walk to the bathroom to take my contacts out LOL- They told me in 10 years I might have to wear reading glasses!!

I've had two different optometrists tell me that. bc my rx is so bad they can't be sure lasik will correct it 100%. Like I said my rx is -11.5 and the highest rx in existence is -12. If it gets worse then I'm SOL. But they also tell me that once you start getting older your vision starts to go back, so when I get older it may improve a bit.
