I got an internship!! Today I went on an interview and I got it!!! Over 50 people applied and they chose me :D This is a GREAT opportunity to get experience. I went to college to be a music teacher and it didnt work (I wanted to work in elementary, they made me learn everything K-12) anyways I took a year off to work and pay off student loans, and I decided I want to work with animals. Interning at the animal shelter means I will learn to microchip, vaccinate, evaluate personality for adoption possibility, I willl transport dogs and cats to TAMU vet school for spays and neuters, and I can get certification for euthanasia. I am very excited! Has anyone here worked as a vet tech? I want to know where this internship could lead to. |

I would start out just in the room during the procedure, perhaps holding the animal, so I can be familiar with the sad but inevitable fate of some of those animals. I wish I could foster them all, so none of them have to be put down! I understand if the animal is in pain, or it's their time, or they have aggression issues that can't be fixed, but it's really sad when an animal is put down simply because they're being overlooked. I was told today that black dogs are the most common to be put down because they're "a dime a dozen". Not my words!! Anyway, thank you everyone, I'm still reeeally excited to help out the animals but I'm not going to do the euthanasia certification until I know I absolutely know I can handle it. It's heartbreaking :( |
Good for you! Congrats! |
Congratulatins. I vet went to Vet Tech School many years ago. It is a two year course to get the degree. I haven't worked as a Tech for at least 7 yrs now. I stopped when I was Dx'd with Breast Cancer 7 yrs ago. I am fine now, but just have not had the desire to go back to work. |

Congrats! Job hunting is hard stuff, it feels great to be the best of 50 applicants doesn't it? Enjoy the new job! |
Big Congrats! I can hear how very excited you are and I'm so happy for you:thumbup: |
First day of mmy internship was today. Mostly learned the ropes, just learning how they do things. I learned how to clean kennels, but I won't do much of the dirty work, thats for volunteers. I watched them microchip, learned how to do heartworm testing...it was very educational. The hardest part was going in with a pomeranian to be put to sleep. They taught me how to hold her and I talked to her in a sweet voice and pet her while they administered it..I thouught in my mind, rest in peace on the rainbow bridge...and she was gone. I cried, but who wouuldnt? It'll get easier, but i'll never like it. |
Yay! I'm so excited for you! Congratulations! |
Congrats I'm really happy for you that you are happy doing what you're doing. Hearing that post about the Pomeranian made me want to cry. I could never do it. |
