I have been thinking about getting a tattoo (this would be my first one) of a heart with a blue and pink rose (my middle name is rose) that has two ribbons running through the heart and would add my two children's names in the ribbons....both my kids have tattoos in memory of their grandparents and my son has one of our family crest....I just am wondering what would be the best spot that wouldn't hurt so much....I am 59, and have bruise/bleed easily, so this might be an issue.. |
For the longest time I thought tattoos were really trashy and the people who had them was losers. As I started getting older I met people here and there that had tattoos and they was friendly, had families and jobs,it was then that I realized I was being unfair and judged people just cause they had tattoos.I agree that there are some really ugly and meaningless tattoos on people. I had my first tattoo done when I was 28,I wanted to be cool and come to find out I didn't become cool...(lol)It's nothing big or ugly, just barbwire around my bicep. Heide and I are both 39,we recently both had tattoos put on our backs. My tattoo is quite large,it takes up the majority of my back.It has sentimental value to me.It took about 12 hours to do.I went in every couple of weeks for 2-3 hr sessions.Heide's tattoo is a lot smaller and took at the most 2 hours.Heide's tattoo is also a sentimental piece. |

May I add, the few days before I got my first tat (the big one I have on across my upper back) I watched this documentary on Nat Geo or something about this tribe in Africa that worships the Crocodile (or maybe Alligator) and their boy's becoming men rite of passage included getting hundreds of cuts on their bodies and faces to scar up like the scales of a croc (or gator, whichever it was). That's all I could think of while my very heavy handed tattoo artist was working on me. Being cut up by sharp pieces of rock. In fact, he was so heavy handed that the needle stopped vibrating at times. |

I have two tattoos, and I don't regret them per se, however, I do sort of regret the design on one of them. I have a butterfly on my belly, about 3 inches to the left of my belly button. I got it when I was 19 and going through a time of fierce independence at college after growing up in a very strict household. To me it symbolizes an amazing time in my life when I really began discovering my true self. I have a heart with the Italian flag colors and the phrase "La vita bella" on my back (not a tramp stamp). I got it after a terrible situation in my life that led to the end of my first marriage. Once I was able to enjoy my life again, I realized that I truly did have a beautiful life. Also, my best friend had designed the tattoo for me. The reasons I have regrets about this one are two-fold. I had to have the Italian colors re-inked not more than a year after the original tat was done. The colors just didn't seem to be "holding" and the ink looks faded. The second reason is because people keep telling me the wording is wrong...that it actually says "The life beautiful" instead of "The beautiful life". I had done research on this (including asking actual Italian people), and they had told me either way was acceptable. Even if it is phrased incorrectly, it still means the same thing to me. Whew, sorry, that got long-winded. I love the idea of the paw prints, and I'm sure I will be doing something along those lines for my next ink. The two places where I was inked (my belly and my back), were not particularly painful at all. I was actually surprised it didn't hurt more. In my line of work I have to make sure none of my tats are visible. I have no idea where my next one will go. |
Always get two tattoos, one is never enough. |
I love the idea ! Watch out though, don't get the same tattoo, make the tattoo artist you choose do it a little bit different, cause propably lots of people have the same tattoo since it pops up first on google. Both my tattoos are just one of a kind, they are not made from anything on the internet, except my red rose portrait is made after a photograph. I just got my second tattoo yesterday , and I love it ! Don't be afraid of getting a tattoo cause you are a girl, gender doesn't matter ! This is just a piece of art that is only your choice, no one else! Just wanted to say that cause SO many people judge us. The tattoo I got yesterday I can not explain how it is, but it has 4 paws in it, ''spirals'' , and a rose... A genius called Boff Konkerz made it, it is hand poked, no tattoo machine used when tattooing. Here it is, you have to be on facebook to see it : Facebook My other rose is just a normal portrait.. Phil Young from Connecticut made it 9'th of June 2011. http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...91814567_n.jpg The paws in my upper tattoo are a sign for my passion for dogs :) Dogs are a big part of my life. I say go girl ! But don't get it too quickly, have your design perfect before, you can also have the tattoo artist to sketch for you :) Watch out for picking the right tattoo artist, many are really bad and don't clean their tools well, so watch out for a good one ! |
I don't have any tattoos and doubt I ever will. However, the memorial tattoos I think are the best! They mean something so special and I don't think you could ever regret them. I think it's a beautiful tattoo. |
I have a large tattoo behind my left shoulder. I like the location, but the caveat is that I almost never see it, as I don't look over my left shoulder. Oftentimes, I forget I have a tattoo (and I've had it for over 20 years). Also, it's practically a private tattoo, as it's covered with my clothing. Furthermore, because it's covered with my clothing, it's protected from the sun, and the colors are remarkably vivid (not faded), inspite of it's age. I really, really like my tattoo, even though I forget it's there. I'm still glad I got it. |

Gosh shows how much I know about tattoos, I didn't know what a tramp stamp was, lol. I've been wanting to get a tattoo on my lower back. I didn't know it was frowned upon so much. I don't want to get it to be trendy. I have a birth mark on my lower back and I think a tattoo would make it look less noticeable. I've always hated this part of my body so I thought if I could get a tasteful tattoo to cover it up some maybe I wouldn't hate it so much. |

You could have them tatoo an arrow pointing to your birth mark with the words, "Proof I was born!" No one would ever accuse you of being trendy! :D By the way some "tramp stamps" really do look good, others kind of look like you have a hairy backside! |
Talking about the least sensitive place to get a tatoo, reminded me of a male patient I had, years ago....he had the tatoo, BOY TOY on his p........well, you just GUESS where it was!!!! |
I had a male patient a few years ago with a male tramp stamp that said "CREEPY" |

I have angle wings, angle wings with a lock and key that I designed myself, a dove that was taken from my wedding invitations and a rose with my Dh, Dd and Ds's initials. I am looking for my next one and cant wait. If you go to any tatoo artist they will tell you that (2.5-3') is too small for the type of tattoo you want. In order to see the detail it will need to be lager. A smaller tattoo will be too cluttered and eventually fade out like they all do and just look like a cluster of ink. It is in honor of a lost one an should be done right. I love the design you chose but I would suggest going larger and putting it somewhere where others can enjoy viewing it as well. Upper shoulder, center of upper back or on your lower hip would be a nice spot. Cant wait to see pics, do share! :) |
I have two tattoos- "If life is a labor of love i'll slave forever" across my shoulders in an upside down triangle shape, which is a play on some Rise Against lyrics. They hit me while driving to work one day, had heard the song a million times with no thought, then BAM....And I wasn't into tattoos. As some have said, if you get one, you will get more, so be prepared. I had dreamed about my next tattoo about 2 years after the last one....I never thought I would get it, because I knew it HAD to be on my wrists, and I know how that can interfere with work. I wanted "ancora imparo" (still, i am learning) on my wrists, facing out, as an offering to the world. A month before my ex and I broke up (things were rocky even then) I knew it was time to throw caution to the wind and get the tattoo. This was about 6 years after the first one. I had pretty much given up on the wrist tattoo, and had plans to get shibari (japanese rope work) tattooed on my lower leg/ankle/foot, but the artist moved to California and promised she'd do it when she came back to visit. But then, my life started spiraling-my relationship was bad-ish, my job was getting worse and worse, and my 2nd (and then only) rat had to be put to sleep....And I knew, it was time for that tattoo, and that I needed it to be facing at ME, because I needed the reminder. The lettering is brown, twig-like, with green leaves on the words, to simulate growth, one word per wrist. A word on pain-my first tattoo, across my shoulders, wasn't bad, it only hurt when he got nearer to the spine. It was kind of thuddy stabby, and was done in about 45 minutes or so. The tattoo artist (a really cool, intimidating guy with national recognition) gave me props for how well I handed it as a first tattoo. The wrist one? Hurt like a 4%&!! and the pain didn't let up til he finished. I have no idea how long it took (probably not long, really) because I was trying to remember to breathe. It was a very hot, stabby, rough, sickening sort of pain. Very sharp. I have carpal tunnel and I had trouble using my hands for 3 days. I have a very high pain tolerance, but it was brutal |
