I swear they see me coming! I swear they do! I should know better than to go anywhere near a Petsmart on a Saturday morning, but I did it anyway. The pups & my kitties needed stuff, so what could I do? Of course there was a greyhound rescue standing right outside. The greyhounds were really beautiful and surpisingly calm. Apparently they're quite the couch potatoes in the house. I was surprised by how soft they are, too. I don't think I've ever seen them in person before. They're really just gorgeous animals. I talked with the volunteers for quite a while and was very impressed with their dogs. Apparently they rescue retired racers which I find really admirable. Knowing a big softee (e.g. sucker) when they saw one, they immediately shoved a flier in my hands and were quick to inform me how all their dogs are cat tested prior to adoption. Anyway, I just wanted to share with you all how stunning I think this breed is. I'm working mandatory OT right now so it wouldn't be fair to bring anyone new home at the moment, but that doesn't stop me from looking! I keep being drawn back to Lily and Kayla... I'm crazy, I know, but someone has to put my vet's kids through college and pay for their vacation homes! LOL |
I love greyhounds! You are making me want one. Of course, my husband would divorce me but it's still tempting! :p |
I have friends who have adopted greyhounds. We have a rescue group here. They are beautiful dogs and made good pets. Good luck! |
They are gorgeous!! I have always liked them. Loving Lily!! |
I have met a couple of people who have several rescued greyhound rescues. They are gorgeous doggies. The first one I met while I was walking Teddy. The second person I met with them, I told her about my amazing encounter with the first set of greyhounds. She warned me never to take my Yorkie near greyhounds again because of their extremely high prey drive. :( I would be wary of having them around small, furry animals. |
I saw a greyhound rescue at our Petsmart a few months ago. It was funny... They were all sitting at the back of the store and the greyhounds were all laying down. I walked by with my two on a leash, and the dogs continued to just lay there. They were so laid back, I couldn't believe it. |
Kristin, that is what I have heard; and if you've seen those beautiful animals run free, it is so easy to see why. They are grace on four legs; but many breeders have told me of their amazing prey drive. |
My brother and his wife adopted a retired greyhound years ago...she was the sweetest, most gentle dog and so graceful. She had a lot of heart and joint issues in her old age, but she was one of the best pets they ever had. |

All of her dogs are beautiful,so I just love on them at her house. |
Oh, I've heard about their prey drive, too. I did actually speak with the volunteers about that. I guess they're all cat/small doggie tested and all dogs in the adoptive family's household must meet the greyhounds before they allow an adoption. I grew up with weimaraners who are also not supposed to be good with small dogs or cats, but we always had small dogs and a cat and they did just beautifully. My brother had a weimaraner with his yorkie and they were best buds up until the day his weimaraner passed. Obviously I'd never leave a big dog alone with mine unsupervised. I don't know that I'd ever actually get one, but they were just lovely dogs. This was my first encounter with them in person and I was just so impressed. For being such large dogs, they weren't really "big", if that makes sense. They're just very tall and elegant. |
I love Greyhounds! They are so beautiful. I hear that they have a short life span. |
I agree that they are so elegant. When I encountered the first group of beauties, I had Teddy with me. Teddy has long, race horse thin legs and a long neck. I was convinced that Teddy was looking at the greyhounds and thinking, "Your legs and necks are even longer than mine!" :p I think even Teddy was mesmerized. |
They are beautiful animals! |
