Spongebob tank, lol. I hope it doesn't come to that. Did you explain already how you came up with the name Patrick? |
Patrick the starfish from Spongebob square pants the cartoon. :) |
Yup that's right. Pat seems to be doing fine. He moved quite a bit since last night to this morning. |
Pat's doing just fine, and I found these little things growing on the rocks. Turns out they are called Pineapple Sponges! Now I know why Spongebob lives in a PINEAPPLE under the sea! Never knew why before! :) |
Gosh, years ago when I did a small SW tank.... I would change 1/3 - 1/2 of the water each week. Main thing is I ran two filters in addition to the undergravel filter. One that hangs on the back of the tank and one of those little plastic ones filled with floss and charcoal (like the ones used for kid's goldfish). The trick was to only clean one filter each week, and always innoculate the new filter material with some of the old filter material, to transfer the good bacterial to the new and jumpstart the filtration process. They also sell a bacterial product for this, which is great for new tanks. Hope this helps.... |
I was told not to use an underground filter with saltwater, that it was only for freshwater. they also told me to change the water every 4-6 weeks if there were critters in it. =/ I DUNNO! they told me Patrick would die of starvation, but he's been good for over 2 weeks. I think if something didn't eat for two weeks it would die. :( arrrgggghhh!!!! |
What does Patrick eat? When I was a TA for a kindergarten class, the teacher had both a freshwater and saltwater tank for the kiddos. She had 3 types of starfish (which she caught herself) for the kids to observe. She fed them newt food if I recall correctly. |

Glad to hear Patrick is still going strong. :) |

I'll have to share a picture of the one that ate newt food. He was amazing to watch. |
We should have gotten the chocolate chip starfish instead. They eat meat. Easy to feed. |
Patrick has passed away. :( He wasn't looking too good the last few days, and sorry to say he didn't make it. I think I am going to give this up, it's very stressful to lose another one. |
RIP Patrick. I'm so sorry:( |

And now to add insult to injury, I posted on the fishy forum, and instead of giving advice, essentially called bf a tool. They must think I'm a troll or something? |

Im sorry! I keep a coldwater fancy goldfish and small koi aquarium. I used to keep fresh water tropical but I fell in love with the fancy goldfish and they are so easy to keep |
Sorry to hear Patrick passed, too.:( Salt water fish tanks are difficult to get right it seems...or else lots of people would have them as well as fresh water tanks. |

RIP Patrick. :( I'm sorry your little guy didn't make it. |
I had to read from the beginning to see what was going on.lol Aww Patrick Star died? Sorry to hear. I got a salt water tank too...it's called an ocean. lol That's where I will keep them or they would die too. :D We only have a fighting fish and that is good enough for me. Are you going to try other salt water fish? Sea horse perhaps? |

Well now I have to change out most the water and start over. Seems like all the "cool" critters I want are for "advanced" reefers  Just like how a "teacup" is not for every yorkie owner. *sigh* I do love seahorse too. Was thinking about those. |
