What do you do for an ear infection? Im talking about human ear infection, just so we are clear ;) . I went to the doctor yesterday and I have strep throat and an ear infection. He gave me amoxicillan for the strep throat. Well will that help the ear infection too? I feel like I have water in my ear right now and it hurts. Its driving me crazy. I have never had an ear infection so I have no idea what to do and since its sunday I dont exactly know any doctors offices open. Anyone got any suggestions? |
I've had strep at least 7 times, yuck, and never had an ear infection  . I wish I was more helpful, get well soon though! |
I have had one on and off for 1 1/2 years. I have been going to Er and ear nose and throat dr. My problem is I have eczema in my ears and i scratch them and set off an infection. I have prescription ear drops that I keep getting refilled. The oral meds should take care of it, but I would call your dr and ask for ear drops they work quicker. If it is really bothering you call the dr tonite he should be able to call in a RX for you. Hope you feel bettre soon. I know these ear things are painful |

Thats horrible that you contsantly get ear infections. I feel so bad for you. This is my first one and I think Im just being a baby about it. It didnt hurt that bad until I took a shower and hour ago and it feel like I got water stuck in my ear. |
I get ear infections all the time! The antibiotic will help but if it hurts really bad your dr. can give you drops for your ears. Try getting a warm washcloth and holding it to your ear, that usually helps me a little. I'm sorry you have strep and an ear infection, I know how painful they are! I hope you feel better soon! |
I feel sorry for you. You've got double trouble! :( I looked to see what it said about treating an ear infection and even though it is talking about children, :D I figured you aren't very old anyway. Wishing you well soon. Up to 80% of all ear infections get better without treatment. Some steps you can take at home to treat ear infection include: Using pain relievers. Pain relievers such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (such as Advil, Motrin, and Aleve) and acetaminophen (such as Tylenol and Tempra) can help make your child more comfortable. Giving your child something for pain before bedtime is especially important. Do not give aspirin to anyone younger than 20 because its use has been linked to Reye's syndrome, a serious illness that needs emergency treatment. Applying heat to the ear, which may help relieve the earache. Use a warm washcloth or a heating pad. Do not allow your child to go to bed with a heating pad, because he or she could get burned. Use a heating pad only if your child is old enough to tell you if it's getting too hot. Encouraging rest. Encourage your child to rest to let his or her body fight the infection. Arrange for quiet play activities. Using eardrops. Doctors often prescribe pain-relieving eardrops for earache. Don't use eardrops without a health professional's advice, especially if your child has ear tubes. For more information, see the safest way to insert eardrops. http://www.webmd.com/hw/ear_disorder...p?pagenumber=2 |
A heating pad does help! I also have to use custom ear plugs in the shower. |
If you need a quick fix for your ear ache until you can get to the doctor and happen to know someone who smokes menthol cigarettes have them blow smoke in to your ear that hurts. I know for a fact that this works as my youngest son had several ear aches when he was small and I actually had a doctor tell me this little trick. My son would actually come and wake me up and beg me to blow smoke in his ear. It has to menthol though the others don't work. |
BEST RELIEF FROM NANA! Sounds goofy but really works. Warm some hydrogen peroxide in a shot glass placed in a cup of hot water. Lay on the good ear and pour the peroxide into the bad one. The bubbles and the heat relieve the pressure almost immediately. When it cools dry it out with a paper towel and put a cotton ball with some neosporin right in the ear. |
