So, my grandpa collects old photographs and often sells them, so it's kind of a fun hobby but he also makes a profit. He came across this photo in an antique store and feels like it's somebody famous but can't quite figure out who it would be.

Anyone recognize this person?

Oh and he says it's a circa 1850s daguerreotype photo.

No, but gorgeous photo. I simply love old pictures, particularly daguerreotypes. They and the people in them are fascinating to me. Hope your grandpa finds out who the man is and you will let us know if he does. What are the markings/credits on the picture back/front? Just knowing what photographer and the city/town he was in might give you a start in the I.D. department. (What did I do to make these last lines larger? I do this occasionally posting and never know what I did?)

Is there anything on the photo that states the name of the studio and the city? Can the back be removed to see if there is a name written on the back of it or a paper inserted giving a name? Sadly, many estates are sold with old family photos, because there are no family remaining to claim them.:(

Yup, he goes to a lot of estate sales, flea markets, etc. I don't believe there is a name on the back. :(

I find this stuff so fascinating though. He usually can spot clothing, background stuff, like dolls, toys, etc, that would indicate a specific period in time, but not much on this photo. It's for sale for $150 right now so he knows it's gotta be someone worth something... says if it is, it may be worth hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. He's had photos like this before worth a lot!

It's a mystery!

I found Brigham Young, looking very similar at one point in time, but it's not him.

I guess not, or else he wouldn't be asking for help, LOL. He lives in SC and sent me along with a few others the e-mail asking for help. And he's pretty darn smart. He always knows EVERYTHING. So if he can't find it, I doubt I will.

You can go to the Dag Salon on this site and look through the dags there and click on the dag and it will give you the selling price.:)

You can google for other similar sites, I suppose.
