My Moms Siamese Bella has a anal gland abscess :(

My Mom called me last night and said "Bella has a hole in her butt" She said that she made an apt this morning, she is actually there right now.

I don't know too much about this, but I think they would have to do surgery? I hope and pray that everything goes ok for her-

Well my Mom just texted me and the Vet said that it is pretty bad, they are going to keep her, it is pretty infected :(

My Mom is waiting for the tech to come in and talk to her some more-

Here is a pic of Bella Kitty- I hope everything works out. I am sick to my stomach, I feel horrible.

I will say a prayer for Bella. I hope that she gets over the infection soon. Bless her heart, she must be in a lot of pain:( Bella is a beautiful kitty.

Sending good thoughts for Bella. My Nikki had the same thing and they were able to clear it up with antibiotic treatment right in to the abscess. After a few treatments he was much better. I hope Bella has a good outcome too.

Poor thing! My mom's shih-tzu had the same thing. It was like a gaping hole next to her bum and it eventually healed and she was on antibiotics for a while. Definitely not pretty.

Well this morning my Mom took Bella in, the vet told her that she needed surgery and she needed a dental. If she wanted to do both it would be $700!!!! If she just wanted to do the surgery for her anal gland it would be $1000!!!!! My Mom does not have that kind of money. They were not willing to work with her or anything!

Since she was not able to pay for it, they just cleaned it up and sent her home with antibiotics and pain meds. They wanted to re-check her next week to see if it was worse! She left there spending $200

I called my Vet to see what he can do, he said without looking at it and being my Mom he would charge her @$250 He told me do not wait to bring her in, she needs to have a drain put in and stitches.

I called my Mom and told her, My Vet is like ½ hour away (from my Mom)- I told her I would just pay for it- We have to do something and waiting isn’t a good idea!

I left work to meet her there, I knew I would have to sign the authorization paper. My vet said it would be $249.00 he said it is pretty bad, he said it is about 7 days old, My Mom just noticed it today.

She is going to be there a couple hours, so instead of driving home, my Mom is going to go to my house to wait.

So everything worked out, I cannot believe that vet! $1000 for an anal gland surgery?? That is beyond me! I am so thankful to have this Vet- He is just so wonderful!! I m so happy Bella is getting fixed and will be ok! Thank you for your prayers!!

Thats just crazy. I'm so glad your vet can do something for your moms kitty. Hugs and kisses to Bella.

We just got the call- Bella just got out of surgery! Everything went great! We can relax now!

Thank you ladies! I'm sure she feels much better- The vet said he thinks it happened like 7-10 days ago. He said it was pretty infected inside, and it already had dead skin :(

She is all stitched up and has her little drain in! My Mom has to take her in Monday to get the drain out.

Thank goodness for my VET he is just amazing!

Sohappy Bella is out of surgery and that you supported your MOMand Bella in such a wonderful way.

I have to say, and no pun intended, but I guess I'm not so anal about my cat as my dogs. Even for me, I might have missed an ulcer or some such developing around the anus. Cats are pretty private kind of folks, and I only groom Karma once a week, so something could develop over that week.

Thank You- You know my Mom is always petting Bella and all that good stuff, but she isn’t as anal as I am! I pretty much investigate Peanut daily for things LOL, but like you said Cats are private- Cats are much different than dogs, that is for sure! Bella was in the closet for a couple days and that is unlike her. So that’s how my Mom knew something was up!!

Well I have another update- My Mom called her neighbor over to help her do Bell’s drain this morning. Bella apparently had enough- My Mom’s neighbor was holding her down and my Mom went to lift her tail and Bella freaked out, jumped away, then jumped on the kitchen counter and knocked down fruit punch!! She was very mad! Bella wasn’t having any part of it this morning.

My Mom called the vet and they told her to bring her in. I told my Mom she should see if Bella can just stay there so they can flush her drain till they take it out Monday. The vet said of course, he thinks that would be a better idea so she isn’t stressed out. She can lay in the cage and rest, not move around too much! Less stress for her the better! Instead of taking it out Monday, they are going to take it out Sunday (it needed to be in 3 days so Sunday would be the 3rd day anyways) My Mom will pick her up Sunday and not have to worry about making sure she flushes the drain and no stress for everyone! Besides she needs to flush it with butadiene (sp?) and that stuff gets everywhere, especially if you have a cat that will not tolerate you messing with her right now.


“Sigh” Man what a ride this has been! I can’t wait for all this to be over! The good thing is Bella is doing good! I am sure her staying at the vet will help her. Keep her from moving around too much and we know they will keep her area clean!!
