Question for you Arizona, N Mexico, Texas, Oaklahoma and Arkansas folks Were thinking of taking a trip to Arkansas, Crater of Diamonds, we will be going thru theese states and wanted to know if you could recommend things that are must see/do? Your input is appreciated. (I definately need to hit a craker barrel somewhere!):) |
I do love stoppin' by cracker barrel every time we do a road trip! Everything in Texas is bigger :D just where are you going through it exactly? :) |
Have you ever been to Sedona, AZ? Gorgeous! There's always the Grand Canyon, but it'd be a little cold this time of year, I think. |
Palo Duro Canyon in the Texas panhandle is wonderful. We stopped by there the last time we were driving back from New Mexico and loved it. It is so Texas. |
We have no particular route yet, mapping out now. Been to Grand Canyon and to Sedona, love love them both. I love Arizona period! But I dont want your scorpions. ha ha. |
Awwww, your going to about Nashville Arkansas aren't you? Will you be coming through Fort Smith? Going down Hwy 71 South? If you are going that direction I can tell you a few things to see. But if you are traveling a different route I will have different things. Let me know which route you are heading and I will tell you a few things to do here in good ole Arkansas! :D |
Don't know when your trip is scheduled but the YTCA Roving Specialty will be in OKC May 16-20, this year. That would certainly be worth staying for a least a day of the show and shopping. |
Big Bend State Park in West Texas...ABSOLUTELY BREATH TAKING COLORS!!! Wonder Cave in San Marcus....Alamo in San Antonio, hallowed ground for Texans... stay at the historical Menger Hotel...see the lobby where Rough Riders actually rode their horses right up into the lobby, visit the bar where Carrie Nation, (prohibitionist) chopped up the bar with an axe.....there is a small theater where they show a small skit with holograms of Davy Crockette, Travis, Jim Bowie, etc and others that fought and died at the Alamo..In Brenham, take a tour of the Blue Bell Creamery, where the State Ice Cream of Texas (Blue Bell!) is made....we have multiple President's Libraries in Texas....Country Western music fan?? Austin has Austin City Limits,..... one of the Oldest Honkey Tonks in Texas, Arkey Blues...in Bandera or??? my memory is fuzzy..or in the absolute oldest honky tonk in Texas, Gruene Hall (pronounced "Green") in Gruene Texas, where the likes of Willie Nelson, George Strait, Clint Black, etc will stroll in unannounced for a cold beer and often they will jam....fabulous resturant in Gruene is The Gristmill......so much to do in the Great State of Texas! |

Dallas has deep ellum, west end, the 6th floor museum, reunion tower observatory, Dallas aquarium, Dallas zoo, Musuem of art, thanksgiving square and dealy plaza, Nasher sculpture center, The arboretum, white rock lake, Dallas heritage village, Dallas holocaust museum (one of my personal favorites), Musuem of nature and science, Numerous cemeteries, churches, and nightlife. Fort worth has the stockyards and other stuff, but it's been so long since I've gone and spent the day. We use trip advisor for ideas. It gives feedback from others as well. I'm a sucker for museums and art, so I love to walk through those when we go places, even if it's something simple like a tractor museum lol |

There is 1st Monday Trade days in Canton. Tyler Tx is our rose capitol, just 20min from Canton. Look up the State Parks, you can spend weeks going through them. Saledo (Stage Coach Inn) lots of history and a great couple of restaurants + a bit of shopping. Natural Bridge Caverns. Oh and you have to go to West for German food!! |
Wow thanks guys for all the info. Ive sent away for brochures from each state so we can map out our trip, but its always best to ask locals I think. |
We went to the Crater of Diamonds one year. Don't bring super young children! LOL DH had a blast, but I ended up feeding my son goldfish and keeping him content the whole time. I would like to go again though. The place is pretty good size! No shade, so bring sunscreen and such!!!! Have a blast!!! :D |
