Having a kid in high school an 1 in middle school I am sitting here crying and very sad. One mom said her daughter texted her and told her there was a shooting and she was in a closet. They must have been terrified. My God what is happening? I also heard that the kid twittered that he was bringing a gun to school but no one took him seriously. I have my heart in my throat everytime my kids leave, until they get home. The bullying situation is just ridiculous in schools now. So frightening, those poor innocent kids. |

My daughter is a senior and in the beginning of this school year she was waliking down the stairs and all of a sudden there was a pile up everyone got jammed up. There was a fellow senior boy who thought he was the king of the school and he had put his shoulder into the chest of an incoming freshman boy. Just a little 9th grader with his backpack lost like all the other 9th graders are that were new to the school. My daughter flipped out on him. She told him to move and let the kid go. After that she had this "bully" in her oral communications class later in the day. She mentioned this incident and she was very upset. You see my son now in 8th grade will be going to this school next year as a freshman and she thinks that no one will stand up to him. His first day of high school and this kid has to be scared now. This idiot thought it was just nothing and it is sort of a rite of passage. My daughter went to the AP and told him what happened. Big deal he talked to the kid. She felt bad because she never ran into that little kid who was scared so she could tell him that the bigger kid was just a jerk. Also that day some freshman boys were eating lunch in the lunchroom and these older seniors came over with their lunch and told them to "move we are sitting here now". She came home on her first day as a senior just so upset about the bullying. She tried to make the older kid understand that it was wrong and what if it was his little brother that that happened to. He just fluffed it off and thought whats the big deal!!! It's just so sad. I mean I don't know if this is the situation here but it's just so sad. |

so sad... I remember high school, our school ran from grade 7-12, so bullying was very prominent. I taught horseback riding lessons to many local kids and I remember many times I had to "bully" the bullies so they'd stop picking on my kids. It's really unfair for a little grade 7 to be bullied by 10th graders who think they are king S@!&. I always had to let my kids sit in my seat in the back of the bus (I was grade 11-12) with me so they'd leave them alone. My prayers are with the families and youth that are affected by this. |
Sadly the school system just doesnt take bullying seriously. My youngest was a victim of some pretty horrible bullying. I talked to the school a number of times and I was told that the bullies came from bad homes and that they were unwilling to make the situation worse for these kids. My poor DD was left unprotected. She later developed serious mental health issues including an eating disorder that almost killed her twice. After months and months of in hospital treatment and out of country residential treatment she is better but still has an ED and will struggle for the rest of her life. I had threatened to remove her from school and was told that if I kept her home that I would risk having her taken away from us. Most of these kids that are bullied end up with issues and ultimately harm themselves in some manner, the shootings are the kids that snap and wind up harming others. Unless the system starts to make bullying a "real" issue with real consequences we will continue to see these horrific results. I feel sick to my stomach thinking of what those poor kids and their families are going through. |
My prayers to those involved.... how sad. |
This is another terrible tragedy. I teach so it gave me yet another opportunity to discuss many things with my students. Handling a crisis as well as bullying. :( Very sad situation. |
