I am so proud of myself! Those of you who sew will probably not be impressed with this, but guess what? After years of telling my husband I do not sew...not even hems or buttons...I made him a red ultrasuede vest!!! I even lined it in black satin! I learned how to do darts and topstitch and everything! My friend helped me learn, but I sewed it! I'm having a label embroidered that says Handmade by Elizabeth Christmas 2005! I'm about to dislocate my shoulder patting myself on the back! Huge accomplishment for me though as one who doesn't sew! One thing I learned though is there are lots of little gadgets that make sewing tons easier, like a magnetic guid for the machine and point turners, etc./ I didn't even know those existed. I also used a serger on the satin! Gotta get me one of those handy machines.......I'm on a rolll! |
Good for you!! It is quite the feeling of accomplishment, I made a fleece dog coat,, and You would have thought someone offered me a million dollars for it! LOL Of course Bailey is yet to wear it, cause he has so many better store bought ones,,but I was pretty proud.. LOL, at you patting your back and dislocating your shoulder! Yours sounds great tho ,,, why not picture?? |
I'll post a picture when it comes back from the cleaners all pressed and perfect. Oh! I forgot! I'm getting someone else to do the buttonholes! I didn't want to risk screwing up the vest! |
From one non-sewer to another...CONGRATULATIONS :) |
wow...cool. I used to know how to cross stitch but I forgot.... |
Way to go Elizabeth!! I tried to help my mom make curtains a couple of years ago, and she was amazed that I couldn't sew a straight line! :p Who knew there was such a thing as a magnetic guide! I might have been able to do it! |

WOW! Good for you. I want a serger! I have a plain machine that pretty much just sews a straight line. |
Thats awesome! You've found a new hobby! I'm sure your husband won't mind getting beautiful new clothes all the time! |
The vest sounds wonderful and I'm sure your husband is going to love it. |
I am impressed, it sounds great. I am learning too and I stink at it. I took an old sewing machine my friend was getting rid of. What do I try to make for my very first project? A snowsuit for Gus. I was doing okay until I tried to add the legs. He looked like the kid from A Christmas Story. He couldn't move. lol I"ll have to get a magnetic guide. I went into Joann Fabrics for a few things and spent almost enough to buy a new machine. I missed that though. I figure in a year or two I might be good enough to make something he won't be ashamed to wear in public. |
