Printers We are looking for a new printer, but I have no idea what I'm looking for! Currently we have an old HP 1210 all-in-one. We have never had a problem with the printer and we will probably still keep it around for general printing. We are looking for a new one for a couple of reasons... we are printing our own wedding invitations and programs and want them to look nice (sometimes our printer does not do a great job, prints crooked, or smudges ink.. not all the time, but we don't want to take the chance), and we also mainly use our printer for printing photos, and the quality is not good at all! Does anyone have any suggestions? I noticed a Kodak printer on sale at Best Buy for $149, regular price $249. It is a Kodak Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer (HERO 9.1). Any opinions on that one? I think about $150 is the max we can spend. |
I wish I could be of help, but I'm outta the loop with what's available now. The last time I did any comparison shopping of printers was when I picked out my HP 3210 all-in-one about 6 years ago. I really like it and I'm hoping not to need to replace it any time soon. Good luck in your search. |

I bought a new one this year...but I mostly do B&W...so I love the fact that it has separate ink jets, so you are not replacing everything when 1 colour runs out. It's a Epson Workforce 633. So far so good...but I don't do a lot of photo printing, what I've done has been great...but others might have better suggestions. |

I don't have a specific recommendation, but if you are going to print your own invitations, then you want your finished product to be water proof. You don't want someone touching the invite that happens to have a little moisture on their fingers to smear the ink, it will make your invites look cheap. To prevent this, you have two choices: 1) Use a laser jet printer, their ink is water proof, or 2) use water proof paper in a inkjet printer. |
Are you sure this is really cost effective? The cost of the printer is nothing compared to the ink, which can run as high as the printer. Weddingbee asks the question and most people liked Catprint, but I liked this answer: Quote:

Nancy, it's not that we're buying one just for wedding invites, but we have wanted a new printer for a year already :) We have been traveling a lot and when we take a picture we love, we will print it and frame it at home. I know we could do the same thing at Walmart or whatever, but it is nice to do at home because going to Walmart means an extra trip into the city, which is more money on gas than anything! I am also starting to work from home more often and it would be nice to have a better printer for that. I do CAD work with engineering drawings and I like to print them out to mark up with pen. |

I print hundreds of photographs a week and I use four printers. Three are Epson my preferred printers for photographs but I also run a Brother which is my preferred printer for documents. Why do I like Epson so much ? well the ink is cheaper and separate cartridges and the Brother only has four cartridges against the Epson's six. Once I have printed my photograph I spray it with a UV and water proofing so they never fade and can be handled with no problem. I cannot do this with documents so there is always a danger of wet fingers making the ink run. |

When you go to purchase a printer, be sure to select 2 or 3 and ask the sales person to explain the differences among them, while keeping in mind your situation and how you intend to use. Good luck and I think I paid around $280 for my printer! |
Thanks for all the suggestions! We don't really handle our pictures now, just let them sit until they dry and then put them straight into a glass frame. Our biggest problem is quite a few of the pictures show lines across them from printing. Not subtle ones, but pretty noticeable ones! We have a couple of 4x6 pictures that we put up higher on the wall so you can't notice it as much! |

1. You are using the wrong paper or paper setting. 2. Your print heads need cleaning. 3. You are using copy paper instead of Photo Paper. There are other reason but the above three are the most common. |

We have a Canon Pixma...and I like it. I don't know that it would be of good quality for an invitation though. It's been pretty user friendly; we had an HP and for some reason, it didn't work very well with our desktop (like it didn't stay connected properly or...?). |
Thanks everyone! Ann, my fiance has been looking at the Canon Pixma. Is it wireless? We pretty much plug in our printer when we need it, because the cord has to stretch across the room lol... we have a tiny nook we decided to put our office in, and it's not really the best setup! We're really not too picky about the invitations. They will go on someone's fridge for a month and then get thrown in the garbage! We bought them already and just need to download the program to design them and print them, so I just want to make sure they're not all smudgy right out of the printer. Other than that, if it's legible and printed straight, it's good enough for me! Nancy, I'm not sure if mine has anything like that. All I've been able to get it to do is print a test page! I can check for more options when I get home. It's almost a decade old and I got it for free with a laptop lol. |
