Any marathon walkers/runners? I am getting ready to walk My first marathon in a week and a half. It is the Super bowl marathon since the super bowl is in our state. We get a neat superbowl marathon shirt for doing it. My Husband talked me into it and I thought oh ok I cnan walk no big deal but you have to walk a certain pace and it is very brisk walking lol. I got on the treadmill and walked that pace for about a mile last night and my legs are sore today lol. We have to go 3 miles which really isnt that much but if your not in shape it kinda is. My Husband runs and walks on the treadmill everyday so hes prepared and is going to run other marathons. So keep me in your good thoughts as I try to get to where Im living a healthier lifestyle. Im also in the process of quitting smoking and trying to lose a little weight |
I'm hoping to run a half marathon in the next 2 years. I'm at about 5k, and am not quite sure if I'll make it the full distance in my training, but am hoping to be at atleast 10k by the summer. It's really tough, I've started cross-training with yoga and find that really helpful. I download podcasts from free yoga download... |

A couple of years ago, I did a six mile run. It was tough and I walk/run on the treadmill or outside several times a week. As much as I want to, I don't think I can do a half marathon. Keep training, you will get there! Good luck! |
I know you've probably heard it before, but drink lots of water, it can really help. I try to drink water before my elliptical training, but also drink at least 2 bottles during. Also, water helps with quitting smoking. By the way, the nicotine patches worked for me. After I could manage one patch a day without getting in a fight with anyone, I cut it in half and used that for several weeks/months, then I cut that in half again. I never rushed myself, and some days I actually forgot to change the patch, but the secret is doing it slowly. Your brain actually makes nicotine, but when you start to smoke, you kill nearly all your nicotine receptors; you might have one lousy receptor where you use to have 100. So the idea is to get these nicotine receptors healthy and soon your brain will be happy with the small amounts of nicotine that it actually makes. Anyway, best of luck with your walk, you’re doing a great think, and you’ll have more energy for those trips to Disneyland! |

That's so wonderful that you and your husband are doing that together!! I have run 5 marathons, then I was very sick and had surgery and after 2 years, I'm starting back. I'm running a 5 K in Feb. With my 23year old daughter. I bought an app for my Iphone that is really helping me with my training. I will tell you, training is important....eating right, getting enough sleep, etc....but a huge part is in your head....if you want to do it, you can!! Oh, and shoes.... You must have good shoes -have a running store help you with that. Running/walking a marathon makes you feel so good!! It makes you feel like you can do anything you set your mind to! :-) and remember on day of your race, don't do anything new! That's not the time to try something different!! Good luck!! I did a half marathon three years ago. I have signed up to do another in May. Next week I start my training schedule. Let's get motivated! |
Good for you! It is really great how you and your husband are living a healthy lifestyle and taking on this new challenge. I didn't start running until I was around 45 and it was just because I wanted to try something different. Let me tell you, it's addictive and habit forming - but in a good way! :D I've run over 60 races including 2 full marathons and 14 half marathons. By the way, if you ever have any questions or are looking for a great group of runners/walkers to connect with, there's a wonderful forum called RunningMania. You'll find a wealth of information there for runners/walkers of all levels - plus the members are fun and welcoming. If you need motivation, help with your training, have questions, or even just want to hang out with some great like-minded people, it's the place to be! :) Anyway, you're in my thoughts. :) It will be a great adventure and I'm proud of you for going for it! Oh Chachi good luck to you! :) Are you walking a marathon literally? I used to do the Walk for Hunger in Boston, MA every year for about 8 years in a row. It's a 20 mile walk. It was HARD to walk that much. I usually did really good until like mile 16, then I crapped out and still had 4 miles to go!!! Oh it was painful.... and I did it when I was in good shape, but not prepared for a 20 mile walk... I was a lot younger then too! |

I did it!!!! Im so excited! Im also sore which I didnt anticipate because I walked 3 miles on the treadmill on Thurs. We went downtown and did alot of walking afterwards though all day and I think that make it worse, Im kinda hooked to this walking now though. There is like a following of people that are involved in these type of marathons |
Congrats Chachi!!!! I bet you are so proud of yourself, and to do it in such a big event for Indy must have been thrilling. I would love to go see all the excitment going on there right now, just can't talk hubby into going. Keep up the good work you will be walking that marathon before you know it. |
