PC users help me out! Photo editing software
 
BIL needs a free photo editing software that runs on PC. It only needs to resize and crop pics, and write text ontop of pics for "watermarking", that's it. :D If I search on my mac, only mac versions will come up, so please let me know what you guys use and like.

He says there are no free downloads and he'll just buy one to make things easier. :rolleyes:

If he does decide to pay....

Tell him to look around for coupons for Paint Shop Pro. I bought mine for $39 a couple months ago. It's worth it. It's not Photoshop, but it is very useful.

I don't know if there is freebie that has decent watermarking.

There is one that Nancy recommends. I have it, it's called PhotoScape.

I've used Paint Shop Pro and I have to say it's a great program. I have Adobe Photoshop and I still go back to Paint Shop Pro sometimes because it's easy to use.

I like Gimp as well, it's a lot like Photoshop but free :) Picasa is good too. They were really good back in the day.

Photoscape is a great free program and you can even make moving avatars. It will crop and you can add text, but you can't really watermark. He might even use Photobucket, you can do all that online.

I have Paint shop Pro 9, and love it. It has a real watermark application, and you can register your picture. It used to be a hundred dollar program, but Jasco sold it to Correl, but still obtain the rights to sell PS pro 9 and you can buy a new copy on ebay for $9.00. It's so worth it! JASC Paint Shop Pro 9 + Animation Shop 3 **NEW** | eBay.

I sent him this too. Maybe if you "pays" for something, he'll see it as more useful. Although he's overpaid for plenty of things he doesn't use at all. :rolleyes: I told him this morning I sent him an email with the links to free programs. He kept giving me excuses. "free ones you can only do so many pictures....it's just a free trial, you have to pay after that..." I just yelled at him, "JUST FREAKING LISTEN TO ME!!!" :D

Ha ha, he's right. that is so true of so many so called "free" programs, and you have to pay after a trial period, but all the ones listed as free here are really free. Sounds like you two get along great! :D

Honestly...I just use "Paint" to do that. lol! I'm cheap. :rolleyes: It's free with virtually any PC (not sure about Macs)....it's in the Accessories area. Then I upload to Photobucket and "play" with them.

I use Photoshop and love it so far, but it's not free. That GIMP sounds neat! I need to try that out. I've used a few online ones for free, but I don't think I was able to figure out how to put the watermark on top of the photo. But I am not a pro at that kind of thing. :)

I use Picnik Picnik

There is a free (basic) version or pay (more editing) version. Its not expensive at all. But I'm cheep so I use the free one. If you sign up it will save your photos for you. I used it to do Ruby's photo as my avatar and Quincy & Miah's photo for the VDB.

I have Photoshop Elements on my PC. It's a more basic, more user-friendly version of Photoshop, but still does tons of awesome stuff. I have the full version of Photoshop CS5 on my iMac and MacBook because they have more power, but Elements can be nice for just small projects.

I think Photoshop Elements has a free trial version; buying it should be under $100. It's a much better program than any of the other cheaper photo programs, IMO.

I liked using Picnik for some things, but I was reading today that Google is discontinuing it. Several alternatives were listed, but I haven't had a chance to look at them yet:

I just received an email that picnik will be closing April 2012... awhh nuts!! But its free until than.

So, I too will be in need of a good (FREE) editing program. I tried finding the Gimp but it kept coming up not a secure site. I dont want to take any chances with down loading viruses (Errrr $ ) So does someone who uses it, and has used it with no problem add the proper link to access it, Please !

I like CNET, it gives good reviews as well GIMP - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com. By the way, Gimp is a great program, but it is a little more complex to learn than some of the other listed. They do have quite a few YouTube tutorials on using it.

I get the same thing with both links:

Big Red X / Publisher can not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this application?

Your computer is just telling you that the site wants to download a file. That's a safe site, just say yes when it asks you if you are sure you want to run this application.

Downloading Gimp now.... I hope that it is the type of software that I am looking for. I love editing my own photos before I print them and for on lone sites.
