Honest Opinion.... Hey y'all! I have a question for you. What do you think about wigs? I have a friend who has a genetic condition that caused her to lose most of her hair. She is 27 and has very little natural hair left. She wears a wig on a daily basis and you would never know it! She looks great! And gets compliments all the time. It has really boosted her self confidence and she looks great! Well, what do you think about people wearing wigs who don't need them as much as say a person with extreme hair loss or maybe going through chemo? I have noticed in the past few years how thin my hair is getting. I wear my hair up in a pony tail a lot (sometimes with a baseball cap on, sometimes not) because it hides my thin hair. But anytime I wear my hair down, I always am so self concious. I catch myself looking in the mirror to fix my hair at the top because I can see my scalp underneath. It's not extremely noticeable but you can see it, especially if I did my hair curly for the day. I was thinking of maybe trying out a wig to see what I thought. My Mom has thinning hair and I am wondering if thin hair is just a genetic thing in our family too. I was just wondering if any of you had any wig experience or know anyone who has? The friend I have wears one made of human hair and it is so natural looking. I am seriously thinking about trying one out to see what it's like. Just for days when I want to go somewhere nice and not worry about my thin hair. Of course, I would choose a style almost exactly to my own, nothing major like going inches longer than I already am. Thoughts? Thanks for your input! :) |
I think you should do whatever makes you feel good! I don't think I could wear one, I had extensions for a while and those things drove me bonkers LOL. If I had to wear one I think it would be different- I might get use to it. Sometimes I think on the days my hair is dirty or not doing what it is suppose to - I wish I had a wig I can just throw on LoL |
I used to have a friend who wore wigs just because. She never really liked her hair so she wore a wig. I say, if you want to wear one, go for it. If you like it and it makes you feel better about yourself, who cares what everyone else thinks. :) After all, who really has to know if you don't want them to? |
you can find some really nice ones that are made of real hair and are comfortable. i believe you can even have them custom made so it is all in what makes you feel best! thats whats important. i dont think there is anything wrong with wearing them. |

In this world the is so much misery which we now take for granted that wearing something that makes you feel good just can not be wrong. Think about underwear. Women go through a lot of expense and trouble selecting really nice underwear. Who gets to see this expensive underwear ??? They wear it because it makes them feel good who gives a Sh^& who gets to see it they want to feel good. With a wig, everyone gets to see it and receiving compliments only serves to achieve the aim. Before you ask YES I wore a wig for a long time but now at 70 years old I no longer feel I have to. |
Wigs can be great! I have customers who wear them all time and look completely natural. The secret is to pay attention to things about your own hair line and match match match! Look into real hair vs synthetic because most synthetic can NOT be styled with hot tools. I learned this the hard way in beauty school when I melted a wig heh not a fun way to learn!!! Man the stories I could tell :P |

Aymee to answer your question 1 Attachment(s) Yorkies can do it- So can we!! |
I think you should do what ever makes you happy. I know when I was going thru Chemo 6 1/2 yrs ago, I bought a beautiful wig made of human hair, it was comfortable. But in the Hot Texas heat I couldn't stand it. I think I wore it maybe 3 times. I still take it out every now then and put it on and then put it back. |

I don't see a thing wrong with it. It would be no different than wearing false eyelashes or anything else thats false. Nails etc. Just what anyone is comfortable with. My mother wore wigs in her later years because her meds caused her to lose alot of her hair. She always looked beautiful and younger than she was. She passed away at 82 still wearing her make-up and wigs and looking pretty as ever. So, I say if it makes anyone feel better about themselves go for it. Who cares what anyone else thinks. They never say anything about false nails, eyelashes, boobs and everything else. |

I say go for it! Splurge and get the human hair kind, most def! The synthetic kinds don't look as nice. Or if anything, there is a cheaper Japanese kanekalon (sp?) fiber that is synthetic, but looks pretty close to real. It's like a nice yorkie full coat, LOL. If you don't want something so expensive, have you tried the clip in ponytail type extensions? I used to wear those all the time going out. Just put your hair in a high pony and clip the hair onto your (my) pathetic hair, and voila! It was a little sad coming home and taking the hair off in front of the mirror though. It's a much cheaper alternative and you can buy several styles. I would not recommend actual hair extensions, as the long term effects make you loose more hair in the end anyway. |
I'm enjoying the pictures. :yelrotflm Wigs are common. Go for it. |
I say go for it! Sounds like fun! :) |
Thanks guys! You all are the best! I am going to a local shop this weekend to talk to the people there and try some out and learn what I need to know. :) I'll keep you posted. |
They make beautiful wigs and if you want to try it, I say go for it! Back in my younger years, wigs were the "thing," so I got a couple. I would use one of those tight fitting caps that looked like panty hose to hold my hair down before putting the wig on. One day I was stopped in my car, waiting to turn when a guy comes up behind me and rear ends me! Yep...you guessed it...my wig flew off my head into the back seat but the tight fitting cap stayed on! I couldn't reach it to get it back and it was so embarrassing! I was more shook about that than I was about my wrecked car. LOL |
I think lots of ppl are wearing wigs and/or extensions these days. I knew a nurse who would wear her hair back but would attach a ponytail extension/hair piece on the back. You wouldn't have known it if she didn't tell you. It looked very natural and nice. I've also known some girls w extensions. They looked nice and you also could not tell. |
Thinning hair runs in my family. My granny was almost completely bald on the top of her head when she passed, my mom has thinning hair. Fortunately, I have more hair to start with than they did (from my dad's side I guess), not that it is really thick, just thicker than theirs is/was. My friends my age (I'll be 40 this year) worry about covering gray hair. I don't care if I have gray hair as long as it's still on my head! My mom wears wigs if she wants a particular style that she can't achieve with her hair. Just make sure you get a wig that fits well and is made of good quality fibers (human hair prefered). Like someone else mentioned the heat can make wearing them uncomfortable. If you want to wear a wig, I say go for it. |
Go for it! If it would me you feel better about yourself go for it! I had long hair and cut it and got extensions because I wanted my natural hair black and the bottom purple, the extensions were platiNum blonde so I can put whatever color on bottom, i didnt want to damage my hair by bleaching as i had before. As for the genetics part I believe it is, well thick hair runs in my family but my boyfriends family, well his mom and grandma have very very thin hair and both of our daughters have very very thin hair and my son has really thick hair if only my daughters would have had thick hair like mine. My daughters are 2 1/2, and 9 months, since my son Was 4 months his hair was longer than both of them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing wigs if you want. |
women with thinning hair is more common then most people believe, I have so many women who sit in my chair which style thier hair to hide it, and some with wigs, you would NEVER be able to tell this by just looking at these women. I have one client who is almost completely bald, she wears a wig everyday, and comes in to get her hair trimmed underneath it regularly, her biggest complaint is it can get hot under there so she minds wearing it in the summer. she said she will take it off and tie a bandana around her head on days that are too warm, her fist time ever coming to me, i looked at her.. and her wig was so well made it thought it was her hair!!!, i usually can spot everyone who has a wig, it was real human hair, custom made to fit her head, tons of beautiful highlights trhough it, and a cut that suited her face shape, it made her look amazing!,if you get one make sure it is QUALITY human hair, that way it holds up, you can style it with hot tools, and change the color as you please. Make sure if you get it cut.. you go to a hairdresser you trust, they cut it too short, its not going to grow back lol. Also if your fed up with your thinning hair may i suggest finding a stylist who is great at styling hair, there are some hair dressers out there who are great at cutting, some at color, some at styling, some all of the above. When i style a clients hair i teach it to them so they can do it at home, with women with thinning hair i spend a bit of extra time teaching them, also adding some layer in her hair can add volume, sometimes the hair if its all one length,it will weigh hair down and cause it to look thinner, also have you tryed properly backcombing problem areas, that can hide any thin sections... before i would buy a wig which may be uncomfortable and warm i would try working with a good stylist to find something that works, if not hen i'd go for the wig:) |
As so done who may be going through chemo in the very near future, I say who cares what anyone else thinks. You need to feel good in your body and if that means a wig, do it. Hell, buy 3 or 4 and tell hubby you're going to let him sleep with a hot blonde tonight and a redhead tomorrow....;-) |
