OMG I saw that. It was absolutally disgusting! I was in shock. I mean those poor defenseless hogs. God it was so vicious! People bring their children to those events. They have NO sense of compassion towards anything but their (selfish) selfs. Those hogs just cried and cried as they were being torn onto by those dogs. So so sad! |

Also wild boar are a serious danger to automobiles.....if an auto hits a deer.....usually the deer will be thrown over the vehicle....yes there is damage....but the humans probably will survive. With Wild Boar......we talking a 200 LB plus animal standing only a couple of feet tall. When struck by an automobile they quite often roll UNDER the vehicle....this causes the dirver to lose control and even roll the vehicle. There have been some really serious accidents involving wild boar and automobiles. The only way to hunt these vicious creatures is with "hog dogs"......but like everything else there are abuses. Hog Dogs.....do not rip or tear up a wild boar.....his only job is to find and contain the boar until the hunter can arrive. These dogs are considered very valuable animals....because they are bred for the job which they do.....to allow them to get ripped up by a wild boar is contra-productive to the hunter. NO humane hunter would allow his dog to be RIPPED UP or KILLED by a Wild Boar. The dogs are taught exactly what their job is.....which is to CONTAIN the animal.....they usually work in packs....and each pack member knows exactly what to do! I know some do not agree with game hunting and/or fishing......hunting Wild Boar is a sport.....same as deer hunters or any big game hunters. But in the rural areas of the United States.......hunting Wild Boar is benetifical to humans. I know some do not agree with this.....but Wild Boar do not have any natural enemies....only man can reduce their numbers down to something less dangerous to humans. Please do not forget......a HUGE portion of the populace in the United States still live in very very rural areas. We don't have to worry about horrid human attacks...but must learn to live with the wild life. But I say again.....AS IN ALL THINGS when man is involved there will be abuses....and I also do not condone the story protrayed the way in which you told it. I didn't see the story. But pleeeaaaseee be open minded.....these Wild Boar are a serious threat to any other mammal.....man, horse, cow, etc.....vicious vicious animals!! But as I said.....I didn't see the show.....don't know if your talking farm pigs....or actual wild boar. d Here is some information on the Wild Boar Conservation Assoc. and their beliefs..... --- THE WILD BOAR CONSERVATION ASSOCIATION PATRICK MYERS, WBCA, 14300 Chef Menteur Highway, New Orleans, Louisiana 70129-2013 The Wild Boar Conservation Association was organized in July 1985 at a meeting in Mobile, Alabama. The association is a dedicated group of hog hunters that want the Wild Boar to receive the credit he deserves as an outstanding game animal. The members want the hog hunters of America to organize in such a way as to help the Wild Boar survive and where he now roams for the purpose of hunting. We are opposed to hog hunters that show no respect for the hog and hunt with the bull dogs loose or too many dogs loose that kill pigs, maim sows and shoats and eventually get their dogs cut to pieces by a tough old boar. We take pride in our dogs and respect the Wild Boar as the greatest large game animal in North America. Hog hunters are a rare breed who depend on their dogs, sometimes to save them from serious injury, more so than any other hunter who hunts with dogs. He depends on dogs to locate, bay and catch the most dangerous animal in the woods. |
"Hog hunting" verus "hog-doggin"...... More on "Hog hunting" verus "hog-doggin"...... the two are not the same!! Yes there are abusers in EVERY aspect of the animal world.....but "hog-doggin" events are not meant to be any more cruel than your local rodeo.......it's too bad some people over step the bounds....see explaination below d ------------------------------------------ Hog catching ban Posted in Pets by SayUncle on April 29th, 2004 Louisiana is looking to ban hog catching: A Louisiana state legislator is trying to outlaw a violent spectator sport: fights pitting vicious dogs against wild hogs. Rep. Warren Triche, a Democrat from Thibodaux, has introduced a bill that would ban the bloodiest forms of “hog-doggin,” as the pig-versus-canine duels are known in the rural corners of his state.First, it’s probably not a good idea to refer to your constituents as hillbillies, but that’s a separate issue. The article misleads as to what hog catching really is. It’s not a fight. I’ve seen hog catching events. Essentially, a dog runs up to a wild boar that is kept in a pen, grabs it by the ear or nose, and holds it down long enough for the dog’s owner to run up behind the pig and lift it’s back legs. This is done to show that the dog has control of the pig. It’s not a fight. The obvious comparison is a rodeo. Sure, the pigs don’t enjoy it but calves don’t like being hog tied. The purpose of this is to prepare the dogs to actually go into the wild and hunt feral pigs, which are considered a nuisance. And it has nothing to do with vicious dogs, it has to do with training them to accomplish a task that is arguably brutal. A humane society was trying to shut one such show down a while back. I’ve never taken Politically Incorrect Dog hog catching, but I’ve seen his parents do it. It’s impressive watching an 80 pound dog tackle a 200 pound pig. Hunting feral pigs with guns is OK. With dogs, apparently not so much. Comment: Dennis Says: April 29th, 2004 at 3:47 pm I’m from Louisiana and there aren’t any hillbillys here. In the southern part of the state you find a lot of Cajuns. In the northern part of the state you find a lot of rednecks. We don’t have many hills in Louisiana. The hillbillys are farther north, like in Arkansas. This guy is just a plain ole idiot. If you have never hunted hogs from horseback, you just have no idea how dangerous it can be. A feral hog will have tusks three or four inches long and can kill a good dog (or a good horse) in just a short time. Some really knowledgeable people say that hogs are almost as smart as humans, which I take to mean that some hogs are smarter than some humans. I don’t go to chicken fights, and I don’t go to hog-doggins. Not my cup of tea. Comment: mostly cajun Says: April 29th, 2004 at 6:56 pm Hillbillies?!?!? The highest point in the whole state is 535 feet above sea level. This guy is just running his mouth. This is the cr*p that our legislature is doing while real people are out working for a living… He’s apparently learned about wild hogs from watching too much Porky Pig. A feral hog is the most dangerous animal in the state, and this is a state with alligators! Exactly how does he propose to catch these hogs? |
