I've been painting for years, I've done some sketching, but really want to get better at it.
Here is a picture of Bubba. I've been practicing my sketching so I can get better with my painting. Here is a picture of Bubba, and here is a scanned copy of my sketch. Would you critic this and be very honest. I won't get better if you're not honest. I know I redid the bandana and some other things, and the scanner put some shadows in that are not on my original sketch. Thanks in advance! :)

I've been doing some paintings for people. I really got interested in the shading erasing detail with the graphite. I could always sketch pretty good, but the painting would take over. I went to this site here and was so impressed. I talked to her on the phone and she charges minimum $350 for her smallest with only one subject!! Her work is so inspiring that I am practicing so much.
I need to get my paintings finished, but getting all of the material out for painting is hard, and I have to let layers dry.

I would love to sketch yorkies for people, but I think I need more practice. Bubba was a hard one because his ears are down and he's smiling and the backround kind of blended in with him. Send me some pictures of your yorkies so I can practice!! tidd@comcast.net

Hi there, well i'm in Illustration which is based on very strong drawing/painting skills. I think you did a nice job on your yorkie. Fur or hair of any kind is extremely hard to do in order for it to look realistic. I think you have the general layout down pretty well and right now it is a nice job of a sketch before you add colour. If you were leaving this as a sketch i would go back in and try to put more detail into the hair. The sketch looks a little flat right now (which is very easy to fix by adding colour or more dark and light contrasts) The head is closer to you than the body therefore the head should have darker lines and highlights than the body. It's kinda harder to write it out rather than show you but if you have been doing this for a few years you probably understand what i'm talking about.

I know what you mean when you say flat. I have been trying with the hair. I think more contrast would be good. I'm leaving this one as a sketch. I will go back and add more detail. Also my sketchbook leaves an open crack on the scanner and it puts shadows in there. Maybe I should take a picture??

Ha ha ha you got me there! You are a nut!! Anyone can draw. Anyone can become an artist. It just takes practice and some instruction.

You are funny!! I thought, "What not this again!!" until I saw the just kidding. I have been working on sketching using detail and I just can't get it down yet. I need more contrast, but don't want to ruin the integrity. I am working now on trying to make it look 3D so it doesn't look so flat.

Please post your yorkie portraits so I can get some inspiration, whether you think it's good or stick figure looking.
Please send any good pictures to me and if I sketch it, It's yours, well a copy. I like to keep the original. Not because I photoshop it!! :)
