Dirty grout...hmmm I'm coming to those who know....;) My floor tile grout in my master bath is looking really awful. My main bath floor grout is still beige and looks great, but the traffic area grount in my master bath looks dirty. Not along the walls area only the traffic area. I think it's from all the hairspray:eek:. Anyone know what product works well to clean the grout itself. I use a steamer on it, evidently doesn't work to great, hmmm. :( |
Try scrubbing the grout with some diluted bleach using an old toothbrush. Make sure you have a window open for ventilation. I scrubbed my tiles with no ventilation-not a good idea. My eyes started burning and running. Good luck! |
Thanks, I'll give it a try. Mix like 50/50, or should it be less bleach:confused: |
If You get it clean, try re-sealing the grout to prevent it from getting so dirty again. Google "grout sealing" |
I've found the best thing for dirty grout is Kaboom (the regular spray with oxy, not the foam) and a grout brush. Just spray it and let it sit a minute then scrub :) |
Thanks, I'm going to give both the bleach and the Kaboom a try. Man, I hope I can find something...if not, I have to bust the stuff up and go back to linoleum....errr |

I fight dried on hair spray too on my tile/grout. I use cheap over the counter cleaners, but have found that it works best to let it sit for a while before scrubbing to let the hair spray soak up some of the moisture then scrub with a brush of some kind, then repeat because one time usually does not work get it all, or I miss a few spots with my brush that I find after I wipe it up. |
You can also use baking soda and a little bit of white vinegar to clean the grout. Scrub with a toothbrush. I wouldn't tear up your floor. I think tile is so much nicer than linoleum. Even though it is hard to keep clean!:) |
409 works well too. |

Ive used bleach and ive used grout and tile sealer/cleaner. I prefer the cleaner/sealer as my tile butts to carpet. |
Thanks, I'm going to try each and everyone until I find one that works. I'm thinking it has to be the hairspray because my main bath and sunroom tiles look as good as the day we put them down. |
1) SteamFast steam cleaner (the hand held one) Simply go over the grout with it, and you should see the muck disappear. 2) Mop the floor with hot water, no soap or cleaner and let it dry. 3) SurfaceGard or a similar sealer on the grout itself, you can apply it with a stiff watercolor paintbrush. It's time consuming to do all this, but you wouldn't have dirty grout again...at least for a very, very long time. :) I had to ask my husband on this one...he was a tilesetter for quite a while. |

I have made a paste using oxiclean for my grout in my kitchen floor. It's time consuming, but it worked great. |
