The art of saying no.. Uh, does anyone know how to say "no"... I think I need some lessons. lol. I'm a TA for 8 classes this semester, finishing a course of my own, working some contract work for another professor, and the mystery shopping company just called my house asking for my bf, and conveniently he wasn't home, but I answered and stole his mystery shop (I'm a member too), so tomorrow I have to do 3 shops I wasn't planning on top of everything else. :D Now the problem with me is if I'm making money I have a hard time saying no. I need the cash soooo badly right now, cause I'm paying cash for my degree, and I'm almost done, plus with the dog being sick for the last 3 months, I've already tapped out the emergency fund, refilled it and tapped it out again.. So let the lessons begin.... lol |
On a side note, I love how lots of ppl have viewed this, yet no one seems to have an answer... is it safe to assume I'm not the only one who doesn't know how to use the word "no" lol |
I am getting better as I get older, but No is still hard to say for me. Have fun shopping!! |
Saying NO is so difficult...especially when you are put on the spot with no advance warning. I used to be such a "yes" person....and then I'd be kicking myself in the butt for agreeing to do something, go somewhere, make something, lend something...you name it. Now, I'm a NO person. I first say NO to just about anything....cos I can always change my mind later, or say plans have changed and I'm now available :D |
If you need the money then I say go for it. I have 2 in college, 1 working on his masters and another is a jr so I know how hard it is for them. If the money is easy than go for it. |
yeah my biggest problem is all the "yes"s start adding up even if I make money, and I run out of time for say, school work. I was supposed to graduate in October, and all my making money (to pay bills) postponed that. Sometimes I wonder why I went to business school if I fail to make such simple common sense life decisions... lol. I guess they don't train us to have common sense, only uncommon sense. :P |

He's a happy, stress-free guy...might be onto something. But then he does have mum to fall back on...and I have the credit card statements to prove it...lol |

I do love my family, but my mother and I fight a lot, I couldn't get student loans, and paid cash for a university degree, of course I had to pick one of the priciest schools in Canada too. I know when I'm done I'll have no debt, but it really sucks not having any money right now. I'm hoping when it's all said and done and I have a REAL job, I'll laugh at all this craziness. I really hate money. Sadly when I fall back on a credit card, I'm stuck with the interest rate. Somehow I did pay off the credit card at Christmas time though ;) so the maddness is starting to pay off at least. |
At 42 I've known for a long time that money should be the least of your worries. You are young and have plenty of time to make money. You really have to just try saying "no" once, and you'll find it gets easier when you do it again. I've been so broke it would make a person cry. I was in debt up to my eyeballs when I was younger. Now I'm 42 and have no money worries at all. You do NEED to make time for yourself, or YOU suffer for it. Try one "NO", just one, and see how it feels! The first time I said no it was to my mother-in-law when she asked me to bake something for a dinner she was putting on (probably 15 yrs ago). I didn't have time, and I even offered to buy something instead. She was so shocked, and she got REALLY mad. But that was my first step, and at this point I have no problem saying "NO" to anyone. |

now to say no to everyone else who offers me jobs this semester... lol. Clearly I didn't mess up the networking 101 class :P |
NO is one of those words neither kids or adults like to hear. I found it goes better if I say on of these: That's not good for me. That's not going to work for me. Let me think about it and I'll get back to you. (This one allows stall time to think of an excuse). :D |
