Don't Mess With Texas Well, it should say don't mess with Oklahoma...DUH Oklahoma Mother, 18, Kills Intruder Breaking Into Her Home While on Phone With 911 - Yahoo! |
No telling what the outcome would have been had she not had a firearm. Thank goodness she is alive to tell about it. I'll bet she was so scared. I pray for her and the dead man's family. |

How scary. Glad she could protect herself. If I read that correctly the 911 operator told her she couldn't shoot until he came into the house? Is that right? I could have swore that I was told differently by the detective that was at our house after it was broke into. Just wondering. |

There was a guy here in Texas who shot two guys in his neighbor's yard and got away with it. Let me look for that one.....unbelievable... |
Here it is: Listen to the whole thing....it is something else! He got away with it. Here is the story: Joe Horn shooting controversy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |
I almost swear that he said in Arkansas if they are on your property they are fair game. Man that would stink to shoot an intruder on your property and you be the one that gets into trouble! |

Oh wow! I am a victim of being broke into. And it isn't right. Work your whole life to have someone take everything. He had guts. You have to give him credit for that! I tell everyone all the time not to sneak up on me or try to scare me. I have learned how to defend myself as well. If you catch my drift. Lol. |

That is awful you have been through that...it is such a violation. :( Good for you .. never leave yourself unprotected! |
Well as you gals know I'm from Canada. Guns are not so proliferous here. Oh yes we have our hunters n such. And we bemoan in the largest city in Canada a murder rate of 78 for a year. Some by gun, some by knife, or brawling, or what not. Our laws are not so clear about how and what you can do to protect yourself in your home. I do know because I looked up the laws vs a vs my dogs and if an intruder(s) break in. We should be okay. I have guard dogs along with my Yorkie. We need to post "beware of dog signs" on our fence and front door". That is adequate warning. I don't worry about my safety with my dogs, but if an intruder were to enter (they would have to be nuts to do so..) my dogs would go for that person. Magic would try to back the intruder up, but if the intruder doesn't back up, all bets are off. My concern stems from the fact I just know there would be a court case if Magic or Zoey were to bite an intruder. Their bites are likely to be very serious. I think the law sucks here. There is no way I should feel vulnerable and worried about my dogs, if an intruder breaks into my home. As far as I am concerned, you the felon, deserve whatever you get. |

You know, sorry but my feeling is, you enter my property and get a good bite from my dog then all I have to say is sorry about your luck. You are fair game if you are in their territory. Do you all remember the story about a guy trying to break into a house that feel through the skylight? Heard he sued the homeowners and won! What the.....!!:eek: |

I think it is great that she protected her family. All women should be able to protect themselves even if they only take a self defense course. It can happen to anyone at anytime. Be safe everyone, it is a crazy world!! |
I saw this story covered on the ABC Evening News. She has a baby and just lost her husband on Christmas Day to cancer and now this! Poor woman - not much more than a girl and she has to go through all of this. Thank God she had protection! I would honestly be scared to death to stay even one night in my home without the security of knowing I have a gun and a way to protect myself. Once I was broken into and my gun stolen - nothing else taken - and my neighbor gave me one of their guns until I bought another. Turns out I am pretty sure that it was the neighbor's druggy grandson staying with them for a few weeks who broke into my house and I think my neighbor knew it and felt guilty. I had given the kid my key to do some painting while I was at work and I think he had a copy made. No damage was done to the house when the gun was stolen - no actual break-in - which was a dead giveaway - but he'd opened the window to make it look like that's how he got in. Didn't break the window - just opened it. Anyway, even suspecting it was that kid that got in, I was very scared not to have a gun and when Lucy offered one of their own, I gladly took it! But I replaced my gun that weekend and any time I hear a noise that worries me, I certainly am glad I have a gun!!! And I sure thank God that poor girl had one and used it! Did anybody see her beautiful German Sherpherd Dog she had on the news? It sure was pretty. I hope that poor young woman's life goes a lot smoother from now on than it has gone recently. |

I wondered about that, too, but they never said. Tibbe would have been barking his head off - report said it took them a long time to actually break in and Tibbe would have been foaming at the mouth by then he would have barked so much! I'll bet the GSD was not there or crated or surely they would not have tried to come in if they had heard that big dog on the other side of the door! |
Since it was the day of the funeral ( I think that is what I read) maybe the dog was put up because she thought she would have company?? Just a guess? |
I'll bet that was it. Or maybe she just got the GSD after the breakin. I know I would be buying a big dog if that had just happened to me! I would want one of the biggest, loudest, meanest ones I could find! I'll bet her poor nerves are just in shreds. I hope she can sleep at night - that would have to be the worst time. Poor thing. |

BTW, our dog was put up while they broke in. Now he runs freely. And he will let you know when someone is here. The hair stands up on the back of his neck and he will scare you to death. And I love it. When something happens to him I will get another. Just like you said, loud and mean. Well not mean to us. Lol. So if the GSD was got after the break in, I could see her reasoning as well. And yes, I can just bet she is a nervous wreck with everything she has been through. |
They said at the end of the video I saw on Yahoo today that she breeds Gsd's & that the death of some of them may have contributed to the break in. Not sure how it could. As for the Beware of Dog signs, etc. I remember in law class in H.S. my teacher (who was also a law professor @ WMU) proudly told us that if someone broke into his house he'd gladly bust out his shot gun & that he had the right to do so, but that could just be here in MI. I'm sure it'd be no different than a dog bite. He also told us a sad story about some teens that broke into a property to swim in a family's underground pool at night. The pool was empty & unfortunately they didn't know until someone dived into it.:( He died & his parents sued the owners for not having signs around the perimeter announcing an empty pool.:confused: |
