Secret agent?!? ;-)

I have to say, right after I graduated college I never thought I'd find something in my field (Graphic and Web Design) that I'd be 100% happy with. The field is overly competitive and in my opinion, new graduates don't make nearly enough as fellow marketing majors and developers in closely related fields.

After a couple of years working retail (UGH), I finally landed the "dream" corporate job I thought I'd always wanted - great starting pay, benefits, my own office, my own parking space, etc. Long story short, I was the only woman working on my floor and I was out of there in 2 weeks. The men I worked with were shocked to find out I wasn't a pushover and actually stood my ground and spoke up when I felt it was necessary. It was a really disappointing experience to say the least.

I'm now happily self-employed and own my own Graphic and Web Design business. And I LOVE it. Aside from the occasional grumpy customer, I get to deal with really amazing business owners and corporations on a regular basis. I also get the freedom to make my own schedule, take vacations whenever I need to, manage my finances, and work from home! Even in my pajamas if I want to! :p As an added bonus, that also means I get to spend all day with my Bella girl, who we just got over Christmas.

I really commend teachers (and just about every other profession including stay-at-home ones). My mom is an RN and my dad goes to school full-time after serving in the U.S. military for 20+ years. Everyone that takes the time to do their part, big or small, makes a huge difference to society IMO. :)

I am a Sous/Pastry chef. i am not formally trained. I was hesitant at first, but my boss/best friend asked me to try the position and I did. She saw the potential in me and 7 years later I am still there. I did not have the confidence in myself, but had the artistic ability that a Pastry chef needs, she saw this and said, just try the postion and see what happens. 7 years later, I am still there and run the catering company when she needs to take time off. I learned how to do wedding cakes and have won several awards for my desserts. I do not make oodles of money amd at times get frustrated with my lack of ability, I believe that some formal training would help me somewhat. But I am happy for the most part. My job helps me release my inner artist. But on the down side, I HATE to cook at home. After being around food all day, the last thing I want to do is cook at home. I can make a mean frozen pizza!!!LOL

I work for a Sports Medicine specialist and absolutely love every minute of my job - I really do. It is a fascinating line of work, the money is great and the patients are neat - for the most part. Not to mention the great folks I'm privileged to work with - we have a great crew. The docs are easy to work for and I learn something new every day so it is really the best!

I can honestly say I absolutely hate my job. It's hard enough to walk away from a sweet furry face every morning, but it's 1000 times worse when you dread pulling up to a horrible place everyday. I'm like a social worker at a ore-school. The job on paper sounds wonderful and perfect for me, but in actuality, this place is a nightmare. This is my second job as a kind of social worker, and the same drama from my last agency happens here. I try my hardest to stay out of it, but after 2 months here I've had it. I want to go work with Linz! Her job sounds like fun!

I was telling my older brother last night I might need 4 yorkies just to stay sane!! One isn't enough anymore. His response, "no you need a new job" :p

haha I'm the same way. I dread waking up in the morning and looking over at my puppy all snuggled on his bed and having to get up and go somewhere I hate. blahh have you been applying to any other places?

Although I do love my job, it's SO HARD to stay at work all day long just thinking about my baby boys sitting at home waiting for me

Oh I'm with you on that one. I rush home right at 5 just to see my baby's face!

I have. After what I was told yesterday, I made sure to send out more applications last night. Kaji knew I was upset, and he gave me lots of puppy kisses to try to cheer me up. I love my little man!!!!!

I am so excited to see them when I get home I'm usually doing the peepee dance for 15 minutes while I say hello to them and let them out to go to the bathroom, lol

Come on up :D We actually just hired a guy from San Fransisco. He'll have to get used to our winters lol.

I know this is an older thread, but wanted to also say I hate my job as well. I work for the government and it's REALLY BORING, but it pays well, which is a necessity for my condo that I'm tied to and my furbaby's many toys and treats lol..

I used to work in retail and I hated it too - couldn't stand dealing with the public and the service industry. My current job is obviously MUCH better right now. And I went back to school to study just for this. But..it's just...so boring...

And I don't like my two-faced, negative-nancy, micromanager boss :(

At least I manage to seem like I'm producing work even though I've been slacking off :D

My goodness how things have changed. I worked as a pre-school social worker for 3 different places. They all sucked!!

I thank my lucky stars that's in the past. I have recently found a job at a local university. There are tons of perks working for the state, but the best thing of all, I have a great team. Everyone pulls their weight most of the time, which NEVER happened at my old jobs. I only have to worry about me, and my assignments. And I get to walk around campus to clear my head. It is such a different feeling and vibe. I'm finally happy! The downside is it's farther from home and I have to leave Kaji alone for longer periods of time. Maybe my boss will let me bring him to work someday. ;)

Government work is pretty great - with all the perks etc. Lucky you that you have a great team. There is so much negativity and poor moral at my office. Every department hates each other and there's so much tension.

I hear you about working far from home! It adds to the stressfulness of the job. Takes me 30 minutes to get to work and then an hour to get home after work with the traffic... Luckily Scottie's been really good about being patient with me being away during work. Thinking of getting him a buddy so he's not so lonely!

For the first few weeks maybe months i like the job i do. I get to learn new stuff and possibly be better than my colleagues but after that initial phase wears thin i start to hate the job and become resentful having to do the daily grind.

Might like self-employed work that way i pick my hours.

I work in IT as a programmer, and love my job. This is mainly because of the people I work with, and the environment. My boss and co-workers are HUGE dog people, and ask about Tink all the time. In meetings, we all share puppy stories, and show pictures of our little ones around - it's so fun. I think that the environment and the people you work with make a HUGE difference if you like your job.

Of course I do. I am a designer and this is something which I love doing all the time :-)

Not really...I used to, but the people are not all very great, the pay sucks, the hours suck, they don't give breaks, basically slave labor and safety measures just haven't been up to par either...I'm just done with it. I've been looking for a better job. Keep your fingers crossed! I applied at one I REALLY want.

I like a lot of things about my job. I work as an estimator for a road construction company. Basically I just work from home running a couple estimating programs on my computer. I stagger the submission of the estimates so that it appears as though I've been working hard and a good 40 hours a week even though I've only maybe done 20 hours work a week.

I don't have to go to job sites. I just ask someone to take pictures and email them to me. It's odd cause I'm not trained as an engineer but I'm doing an engineer's job. I'm really good with numbers though. If you give me just a touch of data, I can create a statistical model or whatever you want. And all my estimates are benchmarked and of course job tracking is done, so my work gets easier as it goes on. The work is screwed up though. There's a bunch of crookedness going on. There's supposed to be an integrity in submitting bids for jobs. But its well-known that there's sharing of estimates amongst competitors and sometimes we'll get the numbers of other companies and stuff like that, even on jobs that are public opening. It's kinda like that old saying that it's all about relationships. It really is. Sometimes we'll get screwed over on quotes cause we don't have a good relationship with somebody. Plus if we ever have to bid a job that's on Indian land, we'll have to buy the chief a new car or house or give him a bunch of money just in order to get the job. There's just tons of crookedness that goes on. That part of the work is kinda sad actually.

My real passion though is psychological assessment. That's much more inline with my training when I was a student at university. But it can't compete with the pay I got now and the convenience of my job. I can take a vacation whenever I want and as long as I bring my computer and dedicate about 3 hrs a day to my computer, all is fine. It's great to be able to spend so much time with my dogs at home.

Oh-this is such a cool thread! I am a lactation counselor and postpartum doula. I LOVE my job. Moms and babies during the 12 weeks often need support, guidance, lactation support, I am there to hold their hand for whatever part of their journey they need help with.

Love is a strong word and emotion for any thing so I feel not relevant to my job but I LIKE the stuff I can buy because of my job. Besides, what else am I gonna do!

I have been a middle school 7/8 teacher for 11 years now. I just got promoted to counselor and I am thrilled! I too love my job very much. The joy I get from job has always been way more than the money. I did get a small raise with my promotion though. And I am glad! Lol. I used to tutor as well for the school. The last few years I tutored on my own. But with the new job I am going to try to not do any tutoring at all. :)

I actually love my job. It is important to us to love what we are doing or else we will never go places. Actually, when I was in my 20's I would like to be a veterinarian since I do love animals especially dogs and cats but for some reason time don't permit it. Anyways, as a programmer now I can say that I am satisfied and I just love taking care 2 dogs and 1 cat at home.

Just started a new job about 2 months ago......no I don't like it....I work for a crabby old fart....I usually work with younger bosses which I get a long with pretty well. But besides the fact that the job is an easy commute from my house, it is work that I am accustomed to and like, the pay is pretty good and I am home early enough to feel that I get to spend more time with GiGi my little furbutt. So I will put up with this crank for as long as it benifits my plans.

But I can tell you it's not easy.....it is time for my health ins to kick in but I am not going to bring it up.....I'll give it some more time and when I do bring it up if I have to be the one to bring it up I will be sure to have another job waiting. But other than that I am getting too much done around the house repair wise and improvment wise and time with the furbutt to give this lousy job up right now!
