Computer Problems I was on my computer last night and everything was fine. I got up this morning and tried to turn it on ..... nothing. The cord is fine and the jack is fine. Had them tested today. The tech seemed to think there is a short in the power button. But can only tell if I leave it with them for a diagnosis charge. My computer is 4 years old. So, don't know if it is really worth the expense of getting it fixed. :( Has anyone ever had anything similar happen and if so what was the problem? Ever heard of a short in the power button? |
I am not sure what kind of computer you have but it could be your power supply box inside your computer. Mine at home went out, and so did mine at work so I think it is fairly common. Both are about the same age as yours. Once I had that replaced, I didn't have any other problems. Good luck! |
Yes, it happened to a desktop of mine after an electrical storm. At 4 years old, I would definitely compare cost of repairs to buying a new computer. |
Do either of you mind to tell me a ball park of what you paid? I am thinking I better start looking. Just to replace the keyboard they wanted almost $300! I think I can live with the worn places on my keyboard. Lol. |
Is this a desktop or a laptop? My experiences are desktops. To replace my power supply was under 100 each time it happened. They should be able to tell when trying to power on your computer if it is the power supply. It makes noises like it's trying to power on but nothing really ever happens, like it's trying but there's just not enough power to run it. I've never had a falty on/off switch. |
No it is a laptop. A compaq. There is no noise being made at all. We hit the power button earlier and it showed blue than nothing again. I am having to use an old laptop that has XP on it. I miss my computer. :( I have an individual willing to look at it. Which of course is a lot cheaper, but he is out of town until next Tuesday. I may just have to wait it out. If the expense it too much I will just get a new one. Thanks for letting me know! |
I ended up having a blank screen and I took out my battery and put it back in and it reset and was fine |
Mine started with a short that killed the hard drive. I paid $100 for a new hard drive and installed it myself. Then the "starter" for the whole computer died, so it would make a whirring sound, but never actually start. I was told it would be at least $150 to fix that. At that point, I decided just to buy a new computer. I bought my current Toshiba laptop at Best Buy for $399 a few months ago. It has the latest Pentium processor and is fast and strong enough for me to have multiple browsers open, and Photoshop, Paint Shop, and Adobe Illustrator running all at once. Not a bit of hesitation. |
I think Wamart has some even less expensive HP laptops that are really good. |
Thanks so much! If you can get a new one for $399 that may be the way to go. I think I will check out Best Buy, Staples, Walmart and Sams. I appreciate it! |
