Dog bites baby now may be euthanized Baby suffers serious bites from family dog - KCTV 5 This made me extremely sick to my stomach that an innocent dog would be put down because the parents were allowing a baby to crawl to close to it's food dish. Why wasn't the dish picked up and the dog put up during baby's crawling sessions? You have to supervise them. I know accidents happen, but dogs don't just randomly show aggression over a food bowl out of the blue. Usually they give warning signs or have had food/dish aggression in the past. and a lab really doesn't need to have a dish out 24/7 so why wasn't the dish put up?? I feel horrible for the family of the baby and the damages done to it, but I feel sorry for the dog who may loose his life over this when it sounds more like neglectful parenting and observation to me. I mean if God forbid one of my dogs hurt my baby they would NOT be left in quarantine and then on possible death row for it. I may understand finding a child free home for them, but not killing them over it. :(:thumbdown |
Disgusting. Sad for the baby, but it was completely preventable and the dog should not have to pay for the owner's negligence. I don't know how they could live with themselves putting him to sleep for their own mistake. Sick, sick, sick. |
I am so sick to death of irresponsible dog owners and the dogs paying the ultimate price for their owners carelessness. It is just disgusting, why aren't the owners held responsible? They said this dog has "attacked" before...seriously??? Why then were you careless enough to let the baby crawl around him much less while the food bowl is down???:thumbdown |
:( Poor baby, and poor doggy. Maybe the parents should be "put down" |
When will parents realize having a dog and a child is a big responsibility that is going to take effort on their part. That baby should have never been around that dog especially while it was eating. It is sad that its always the dog that ultimately pays the price |

That being said, this owner's behavior is negligent and he should be charged with wreckless endangerment of a child, in my opinion. They knowing let their grandbaby crawl near the food bowl of a dog who has attacked before??? |

I'm so torn on the resolution to this. I believe every dog should be taught to be food friendly and never attack anything while it is eating. When I was a kid we had a dog, for 14 years, that was so aggressive around his food. He bit me a bunch of times because of it. That was wrong of my parents to let him get away with that from puppy and up. After all those bites from him as a kid I made sure that none of my dogs really care if their food is touched, eaten out of their mouth or anything. I go so far as to train them with chicken, beef and whatever they would love. I don't know what could be done with this pet. It is the fault of the owner all around but it is very hard to fix that behavior in a dog...but it can be done. Should it though? I dunno... I feel really bad for the baby though....it's sad that it had to have this type of experience. |
I completely agree that the dog and the baby should not have been in this situation in the first place. The dog didn't just "bite" that baby, he completely "attacked" that baby, and very viciously, so for that, he needs to have a behaviorist to rehabilitate him, and if that doesn't work.........call Cesar Millan I guess. I know I wouldn't be able to keep that dog after that because I would be a basket case worrying all the time that he would attack someone else. |
That poor dog... He looks so scared. It should be the parents who are punished, not the pup :( |
Dogs do bite people. Yes, it is usually some human's fault. Bad training, no training, no supervision or it could be because of many different things. This dog did not just nip in self defence and then try to hide or get away. It caused such trauma that the child will be scared for life. This dog ATTACKED a human being, a child, a tiny baby ! This dog was not a soldier, guard dog, or working with the police. It did not follow a command to attack. It CHOSE to attack a person. I absolutely would have the dog euthanized. I also think the owners should be charged with criminal negligence. Pay restitution and serve jail time. I feel the same about a human that murders, commits rape or molests a child under the age of 13. Yes, killers are sick, perhaps had horrible child hoods. But when they lose the ability to empathize,or feel pity, they become savage, evil, and inhuman and should be put down. I am an old hippy from the sixties and used to be so against executions, I carried a sign and marched about it. Then I grew up. I have seen too much. I would never take the risk of rehabilitating a child molester or dog who has attacked with such violence and did life changing damage a human. If this offends some, I am sorry I offended you, but this is what I feel. |
