I could not believe this when I heard it on the news and thought I'd share. I can't believe little children are not safe trick or treating in their neighborhood anymore. What is this world coming to? Oh my gosh!! How horrible:( I am sure that little girl is so scarred by this happening. I have an 8 year old granddaughter and I can imagine how traumatized she would be by something like this happening.

Too may sick people on this earth. What is really strange about this is that the mother was walking in front of her daughter...I have always walked BEHIND my children so that I could keep my eyes on them at all times. How far away was she from her child that someone could have done this?! Many of you may not agree with me but some blame goes to the mother as well.

I would be very selective these days to where i let my child trick or treat ..i thought it was bad when some hospitials let you bring in treats to make sure no razor blades or other objects were hide in something, but now having to be afraid of some nut attacking your child...that is so bad

I wholeheartedly agree. Where the heck was the mother????? My kids were always in front of me. How could he grab her and take her that far away that the mother only could find her through her screams? I don't get it.

I was just telling my husband on Halloween that if I had little kids now days, I'd have a really big Halloween party at the house for them and all their friends, and do a BBQ and have lots of gifts and candy, games and have the house and back yard all decorated. I just wouldn't want my kids going out door to door for just candy. There can't be a great deal of fun in that, plus it just isn't safe these days. It gives the weirdo's a reason to do bad things while hiding behind masks and such.

I hate when people immediately go and blame parents. We don't know the whole situation and it's VERY easy for someone to grab a child even if the mother is RIGHT there. Crap happens, bad people exist, and it does not always mean a parent is at fault. They are probably feeling guilty enough. Until you personally experience something bad happening to your kid, don't judge.

All they said was Investigators say 24-year-old Shawn Funt grabbed the girl as she walked behind her mother Monday night in Arendtsville, Adams County. First off, it could have printed wrong. Second off, the young girl may have been walking all of two inches behind her mother, holding her hand, or following her coattail. Things can happen in one instant.

Sad situation either way. Poor kid.

That's pretty bad and my bet the guy was on drugs. As for the mother, maybe she had a few kids with her, you never know. It's easy to blame the mother I guess but without knowing why she wasn't watching them every second is a good question but I know it's not possible to keep eye on 2 or more children constantly.

Thing is... a person should not have to be so paranoid....Fact is...they have to be.

It also said

"State police in Gettysburg tell WHTM-TV that Funt dragged the girl to a nearby yard where he choked her. Investigators say the girl's mother heard her daughter's screams and went to her aid."

The only way the mother knew where she was, because she heard her screams. If the kid was in front of her, like she should have been, then she would have seen where he took her.
There might be more to this story but as I see it right now It doesn't make sense.!!

As for the mother...I'm just glad she was out with her...imagine if she had let her go out with her friends. :(
