Now I KNOW why they call Yorkies Ratters! 1 Attachment(s) Yesterday, I took Taycie outside for her morning potty. Around the corner of the porch there is an opening that goes under the porch. There is alot of plants and leaves around it... So the last couple of mornings she keeps going over there and sniffing like crazy.. never underneath just around the area.. It takes a minute to get her attention and get her inside.. she is mesmorized by this area! I figured it was the yorkie that lives upstairs lifting his leg on the foliage and bushes so I didn't think much of it. Well yesterday after her potty break she runs to investigate and sniff.. I am standing on the porch half awake..calling her, begging her really because I am still half asleep and all I want to do is climb back in bed.. All of the sudden I hear her FREAK out and she is shaking a BIG FAT RAT!!!!!!!!!!! Now I am WIDE awake and I start freaking out!!! I hate critters... I am scared to death... So she is shaking it and with me freaking out she drops it immedietly and looks at me like I have a problem.. I get her inside and watch the rat from the inside window.. Well... It was breathing but it eventually died. I was grossed out by the experience and immedietly brought her in and brushed her teeth and washed her face! HA! Now I know why they were used to catch rats, but ewww.. it is still giving me the chills!!!!!!! I added a picture but the rat looks smaller in the photo because I was standing on the porch looking down... I was not about to go down there and get a closer view... And.... The rat has been disposed off.. But, I did not do that..LOL |
my little one caught a mouse Saturday afternoon took me a while to figure out what she had because we had just replaced her toys for new ones so I thought she was playing with her new toys till I took a closer look |
Ewwwww. Don't you just hate it when our dogs actually behave like dogs? Look on the bright side....that's one less rodent to worry about. Glad you brushed her teeth..... |
Ack!!! I would have been screaming, lol. We have voles here and I wonder if one got into the garage because Max was whimpering and sniffing like crazy when we got out of the car the other night. |

I was screaming.. I went from being completley out of it to about having a heart attack! Ew... I hope you don't have one in your garbage... YIKES! |

Very true! I wouldn't let her give me kisses until we cleaned her up! |
Yuck I dont like rats on bit i would have been yucked out too. I think my two have lost their ratter instincts because the squirrels move all around our yard and the yorkies dont make a move to chase. I dont know if its because we have 5 cats and they are just desensitized to activity in the yard or what. |
^^My boys have the instinct, but I think Max would wimp out before actually touching another creature. Teddy would go for the kill like Taycie. :p Max acts tough and Teddy is the angel, but in reality, it is just the opposite. |

Hahahahaha I love it! Taycie does NOT like to be put in her place, she would rather put up her dukes:) |
I don't like rats at all! But, don't you know she was having the time of her life for those few seconds!!:D It was like a real "live" toy!! When Betty Boop catches a scent of anything outside, she goes for the kill and I can't get her to come back to me so I can get her into the house! |
Oh mom. . . . . . she was just doing her job. lol |

Oh I am sure she was in heaven! And I was about to pass out :D |
What a good girl! Doing exactly what she was bred to do! Did she earn a treat for her work :D? My first yorkie, Chelsea, caught a mole in our yard when she was just 14 weeks old and shook it to death....and then ROLLED AROUND ON IT  I picked her up and told her what a good girl she was....all the way to the bathtub! eeewww! |
Who'd think such a pretty girl was capable of killing a nasty rodent? Beauty and guts! I would have been screaming too! (and brushing her teeth!) |
the history of a yorkie goes back to england I think, many many years ago they were bread to kill mice and rats |

Ewwwww! I woulda been screaming too!! Jackson would most certainly kill one. He has killed a bird before that he got on our screened in porch in mid-air and I freaked over that... luckily, I think the bird died of pure shock (poor thing) or maybe a broken neck because he dropped it when I screamed. But with a rat, I am not sure he would resist such temptation. |
YUCK! Taycie is too pretty to be killing rodents!! :p Levi would've gone for the kill as well. The only things he's caught are lizards and frogs and I absolutely FREAK every time because those things carry poison! He'd love a rat. He sees chipmunks and rabbits here and is always trying to catch them. |
that rat dosen't look small too me, i would have called 911, lol |
Taycie, I would never have guessed that you would do such a thing!:D |
Not thing is off limit for my Miley, If u walk , jump , fly, ran she will go after you. I had a lot of field mice in Il and in a month or so she got them all out of our/her yard. But here in florida she keeps catching frogs and more than once she eats them , before I get to her to drop them she looks at me and locks her teeth , I can't get them out on time. She than has the runs for a day or two, I call the vet she says , Miley is a pig lol !!! bark@ulater!!!!! manina, mileyandmax |
Kacee watched one run right by us in the garage one day and looked up at me as if to say, "Mom, what was that?":D |
Congrats. I would be pretty darn proud of her! She now deserves a day at the spa. |
Congratulations! Congratulations on a job well done, Taycie! |
I know Ewww.... Rubin has killed several voles/ moles ? not sure what they are. Ginny Joy is constantly digging up worms and bugs. Thank goodness, she doesn't bing them in the house to be bragged about, like Rubin does when he kills something. Yes I brush his teeth and wash his face and pretend it never happens. Once Lily the Lab killed a black snake and brought it to me. Nasty, NOT a gift I wanted ! UCK |
I guess I should be mighty proud but the ewww factor is still getting to me... |

Go Taycie:D!!!! She's a tough girl in a pretty package:laugh: Glad you cleaned her up, who knows what kind of germies that thing had. It's HUGE:eek: Good job girl!!!!:) |
Tee hee! I would be freaking out! I am terrified of mice, rats, etc! |
Ohhhhh my gosh, I would have died right there. There is no way I could get Kayla to drop anything. The more you scream the better she likes it. Lexi could care less and last night we heard Dudley doing his little yep yep and he was barking at a fly. THe fly was probably wondering, what in the heck is that. I can't stand to be around anything dead or dying like that. Glad you brushed her teeth too. lol!!!! |
