Gas Leak I really don't know what to do...I moved into the apartment I currently live in about 1.5 months ago. The renter is a student who was looking for roommates and she's been here for 2 years. Well, apparently there's been gas leak prior to us moving in and the manager sent someone to fix it. Every time, the manager says the guy says there's nothing wrong, but the pilot goes out on its own and leaks gas. Right now, we just turn of the gas when we go to school. What is there I can do to get the manager to fix it? I fear for my yorkies safety as they stay home while I go to school...and always turning the gas off is not the way. I mean, what if I or my roommates forget one day? Any suggestions on what I can do? |
Is there a city renter's ombudsman or something like that in your city? Failing that, can't you just call in a gas leak to the gas company as a concerned citizen? |
You and your dog are in serious danger. I agree with above, talk to every official you can find, the gas company, maybe even the fire dept since they do respond to calls about leaks. They may be able to help you make some noise to get the landlord to do the right thing. |
Or, have a qualified person fix the problem, pay for it, and take it off of your next rent payment. Submit a receipt and letter explaining the situation, send it certified to the landlord. |
Isn't there a renter's association? If not, I agree Kristin. It's not fair that they leave you to live with a huge danger in your home you pay good money for. |
Defiinitely call the gas company. |
If you suspect/know you have a gas leak shut off the gas and call the gas company. In the event you can't shut off the gas, or you suspect the leak is before your shut off valve, call 911. Gas leaks are serious (as I am guessing you are aware of since you are shutting of the gas when you leave). |
I will definitely call gas company tomorrow! The thing is, the manager doesn't believe us! He says the oven guy comes and checked it several times and said there's no issues. He's annoyed with us...he didn't respond to my text. Plus, my closet hanger rod collapsed last night too! This apartment needs some work and it's so hard to get them to come repair things! Will update once I call tomorrow! Thanks! Also, the gas leaks, but there's no hissing or whistling sound...I saw online that those are signs of gas leak. However, you do smell gas and the pilot goes out by itself... |

Carbon monoxide is a risk as well as fire/explosion. Carbon monoxide detector is a good idea. |
okay so I let the manager know and he will ask the company if they can change stove. As for now, we turned off the gas. |
Hope you guys can get it worked out! |
