I hate acorns Most of you read the story about my Rubin getting an acorn cap stuck on his toe. Now they have gotten me. I am serious. Oh excuse typos , spelling or ideas that collide like drunken fireflies in a storm. Because I am enjoying a very legal buzz , of pain pills. For two days it rained so much, I looked up instructions for ' how to build your own Ark. My just right Yorkies, were house bound and getting restless, we missed our usual two mile walk. In Fl. you do not stroll in the rain, it is the lighting capital of the US. We have a tin roof. And as soon as the rain stopped the steady pop, pop, pop, like kids shooting cork guns at the penny arcade. The doggies knew it was finally, thank God, time for a decent walk. Everyone got on their rain coat (just in case) and four leashes were clipped to harnesses and we were off on our walk. Sort of.... It was more like four furry little humpless camels, smelling water after being in the desert. No heel here more like charge of crazy autograph hounds, that spotted Brad Pitt. Then it happened . My feet encountered a pile of acorns, it was like walking on wet ice balls. Nothing was slow motion like you think a dramatic fall should gracefully happen. I went down hard and man, oh man did it hurt. Leashes tangled and four Yorkies couldn't belive I had ended the walk already. God love Gracie and Rubin, they sat patiently waiting to see what would happen next. But the puppies, Ginny Joy and Abba Boy galloped down the side walk dragging leashes through wet leaves, grass, acorns and sandy mud. I tried to get up to grab leashes and heard myself scream AHHHHHH. OMG my knee felt like it was somewhere high in my thigh and well I swear, that knee was giving birth without any pain killers. I called Abba daba doo doo Come. And He did ! I was crying partly because of the pain but also because I now had three of my four safely by their leashes. I was Calling Ginny Joy Come ,come, come sweet girl. She stopped and looked at me. Then looked with the most pathetic longing, down the side walk. Reluctantly and slowly she started coming to me. I was trembling and praying Lord just let me get her leash, I couldn't stand it if she ran into the street. She bounced the last few steps and I had her, just as a truck rumbled by. I kissed her sweet little face and she licked tears. My neighbors grandson was coming across the yard asking Are You ok ? I said "No I can't get up, would you put the doggies in the house please ?" He did and with shaky wet hands I pulled out my cell phone and called my son. My neighbors came over Connie went in and got a kitchen chair and two gangly teenagers helped me up so that I didn't have to put any weight on my left leg, and I sat in the chair. I was wet from the ground and my jeans were getting really tight on my leg. Fast forward hospital ER.wait, x-rays, wait, wait, wait. Dislocated Knee which was popped back in place, and torn ligaments. The doctor joked that it was a football injury that kept players from playing. I didn't care, I just wanted to go home, take another pill and hold my Yorkies. So I am in a brace, from my thigh to my ankle with steel rods. My arm pits are sore from crutches. But most important of all we are piled in the bed, napping ,snacking, and checking out YT on the lap top, safe, dry and there are no Acorns here, not even one. |
Oh I am sorry I am glad the pups came back to you . I sure hope you heal up fast. But for now your in the best place all cuddled in with the pups that love you. Sending hugs |
I'm sorry to read of your ordeal, but that was a very lovely written post! Pain killers and all! LOL Hope you feel better soon. |
Wow! Can you ever write a story that I'm anxious to read. I am so sorry you fell. Did they tell you how long you will be on crutches? I can just picture you walking four yorkies on crutches.:D |
I am so sorry that you are hurt and very happy the pups came to you |
Oh Teresa, so sorry about the accident, but really, really happy you were able to get all 4 leashes! Whew! Get well soon! |
Sorry about the fall. :( Those darn Acorn trees should be banned! lol Hope you heal fast. I'm sure your babies are anxious to get back out there. Maybe they can pull you in a wagon sled? Glad injuries weren't worse. :D |
Yikes. Teresa you really need to avoid these things. I hope you are back to yourself in no time!! Hugs. |
What a terrible thing to happen! And such a serious injury. I am so sorry you had such an awful fall - it sounds terribly painful. So glad there isn't an acorn anywhere in your house to give your further grief! Take care and heal fast! |
Very sorry hope you feel better soon. Although I did love your post it had everything I laughed I was in suspense etc. It even had a happy ending. Get well soon, prayers are with you for a speedy recovery. |
I'm so sorry I hope you get better fast. |
Yikes. So happy all 4 of your babies stuck around. I hope you fell better soon. |
I hope you are a little better today. |
ouch! I hope you have a very speedy recovery. The pups picked a good time to listen and come back when you called. |
Wow Teresa! My DB was just asking me yesterday if we have acorns in Florida  I guess it's been a banner year for them in Michigan too! It seems they "run" every other year. Last Fall when we were in Michigan I was just getting Sugar to poopie outside (she prefers a potty pad but my brother has a 1 year old who thinks poop is fun :D) when an acorn hit her on the butt as she was squatting :D I hope you heal nicely and QUICKLY! |
So sorry about your injury and hope you're up and about soon. Glad the pups are safe and sound. I have to admit, I totally enjoyed reading your post. |
Theresa Im sorry that happened to you and hope you are feeling better soon |
Thanks for all the get well wishes, hugs, and Kind thoughts. Went to Ortho. doc this morning. He had results of MRI. So now we know it is torn ligaments around the knee. He thinks it will heal with out surgery. I can put weight on it Monday and get rid of the crutches. If it were closer to Halloween I would put pictures of my swollen purple knee on the front porch next to my scarecrow. Because it is really ugly. I am happy to say, I feel better today. The pain is manageable. I made arrangements for the doggies to be walked My grandsons got it covered. My son just brought me a yummy salad from Ruby Tuesdays. So Life is good. |
Good report from the doc. Get well very soon! Maybe son will still pick up the occasional RT salad even when you get well! :) |
I am hoping you won't need surgery and that it will heal on its own. I'm very happy to see that you won't be out there on your crutches trying to walk four doggies.;) Seriously, though, I will keep you in my thoughts. That has to really hurt a lot! |
I enjoyed reading your story. You are a very good story teller. I am sorry about your injury. Watch out on that torn liagment, it can heal by itself but you can re-tear it and oh boy it is much worse the second. Happened to me, but I will tell you when I had the scope done on my knee I was knocking myself in hte head for not doing it much earlier. Lived with the pain for 10+ years. I felt like a new woman. LOL Yes I hate those acorns too here in Florida. I was cleaning out my pool yesterday trying to find a pin hole leak and step on something. I though what the world is this? It was sharpe and it hurt. It was one of those dang acorn caps. Oh and all the rain, I am so done with all the rain. I took my two to the doggie day care to day so they could get out of the house. They like it there most of the time. |
Good news no surgery. Just take it easy |
Oh I am sorry you were hurt!! But your stories are entertaining! |
I am so sorry about your fall and the problems it caused. But, glad you had help rounding up the pups and getting inside. We are surrounded by acorns around here, too. They certainly can cause all kinds of sliding problems. Ahhhh! |
Teresa, I am so very sorry for the acorn incident. Sending get well  and :hands:. Sure hope you don't have to endure surgery and a long recovery. By the way, I absolutely loved your story! |
So glad that you are feeling better, what a thoughtful son you have :) |
