Who is spreading the germs? I keep getting a reoccuring virus on my computer at work. YT is safe, right? The only places I visit during the day are YT and Facebook aside from work associated with online sites. For the 3rd time in two weeks, my computer has gone in to be cleaned up. The first places I go when I get it back are....YT and FB. LOL. I am paranoid our IT person is going to come back and tell me these places are what's causing my problem and I'm going to be banned during the day....:thumbdown:thumbdown (by my boss). The virus, whatever it is..is a root kit. It automatically redirects my computer and disables my anti-virus program and my malware program, then has a party at my expense. It seems to be a popluar one going around right now. Please tell me it's not likely YT. I can do without FB :D:D..... What ever is going on at work, is not affecting my computer at home, but I have a different antivirus program. |
***Knock on wood*** my pc has been ok, but Facebook carries tons of problems. A lot of losers have nothing better to do than find ways to cause pc chaos in our lives.:mad: There are links on there that have seemed super legit, posted by close friends & when I've clicked them my anti-virus immediately blocks this or that & warns me to never return to the site. If it's happening frequently can you try an 'elimination diet'?:p Stay off a site for a while then add another frequently used one & see if you can find the source that way? |
I'm betting it is Facebook. |
I have heard FB can be bad for viruses, and I am pretty cautious there. Our company does not skimp on our computer needs, yet it still got through. It just goes to show I guess that they are everywhere and getting smarter all the time. So frustrating. |
YT is safe from viruses, but I've sure had my share of picking them up elsewhere. And sometimes, you pick them up - but don't really see their full effects until later. Also, it could be one of your coworkers who picked up a virus at some other site...and then it made it over to your system. Always blame it on the coworker :D! |
Yes, blame the coworker! LOL. Email attachments. :D |
I like the co-worker plan :D. There are only 3 of us, but one of them sends the majority of the emails that go through our office. I dont' even open them and read them all. Can she send a virus, but not have the effects of it herself? |
Her machine would probably be affected too. |
Facebook is really bad place for getting viruses |
I have always heard that FB was bad. But I will be honest, the last virus I got was when I looked up recipes. My machine also had to be taken in. So, honestly I think you can get them anywhere. This was something I never understood. Why you could be so bored to sit around and think up ways to give people's computers a virus. |
About FB, is the whole site vulnerable or is it just clicking on links, advertisements and playing games that put you at "higher" risk? |

I think the whole site is vulnerable, but the links, etc. increase your risk even more. One of the pages that got blocked was some celebrity dirt that I knew had just happened & it was like my ex co-worker posted it so I went to see. :thumbdown A couple months back it showed my sister's bf was tagged in a photo & the photo looked to be a girl in a bra. I went to see wth it was & the whole page was trouble, tagging & adding people without their knowledge at all then hacking your fb or whatever.I've also seen comments with trampy looking girls saying dirty things...click my site, and these are on friends/family pages that I know are not provoking such things. I was checking my dd's email a while back, she's on yahoo, well it had an email from me at an aol account I haven't used in years. I apparently sent it to her, then she sent it to all of her friends w/out knowledge. The subject line said something like "Boss Finally I Am" or some other improper English line. |
