I cured my husband of walking around in his boots by having my carpet cleaned professionally and presenting him with the bill. I told him, " Go ahead and walk through any carpeted room you want but YOU will have to pay the cleaning bill next time." He now takes his boots off at the door. We do have a coat rack with a bench in the entry way of our house. We also clean Molly's paws every time she comes in from outside. |
I don't have this problem with my BF, but my step dad has a radar that tells him when mom has freshly washed the floors, it tells him it is time for him to walk through the house in his fishing boots that smell of Ode de Fish and Diesel fuel. I sadly don't think there is much of a cure... In terms of training men though, I think the bill for cleaning is an effective way to go... If I have a point to prove I usually put it in financial terms. For instance a few months ago I told BF that if he wanted a maid (ie me) he better start earning a large 6 figure income because if I stopped trying to become I lawyer to be a housewife, I didn't want to lose the potential wealth in my future...:D He started cooking and cleaning the next day so that I could work to pay my tuition and study  |
Oh Jodie I just have to laugh at your situation. (Laughing with you, not at you. :)) We have had the same kinds of problems with dirty boots through the years. My DH takes them off in the kitchen now and likes to tell my family and friends that I have nagged him into submission. I do agree with Micah My Love about how I should be being happy that my DH has a job. :) |

There is no solution, I'm almost certain about it, maybe just time, like housebreaking Yorkies, men take about 20 yrs to housebreak!. Although he is good about boots/shoes. Towels, oh dear, the number of times I yell at him to pick up his towels. I would put a bucket, and a mop by the door he enters and have him wash his way through the house after his yucky boots. |
I hear you! My husband used to work with pigs, talk about a mess! I remember one particular incident when he work his nast work clothes in my new car. Imagine getting into your "baby" to go to work only to discover it smelled aweful and was covered in poo! |
I am so picky in my house. Our shoes always come off at the door. My husband would be in big trouble if he walked around in those in my house and he knows it. I've put the fear in him he says! LOL :) |
Those boots would mysteriously disappear one night while he was sleeping.....:) |
OOOHHH...I would be so irritated! My hubby knows better about the boots..also it's a custom in Hawaii to remove shoes/slippers/sandals before entering. But try to get him to put his socks where they belong....sheesh... |
nope sure wouldn't. put that foot down on his dirty feet!! :p don't allow it! ;) dirty boots go out on the porch and clean feet come in. i don't even allow my dh to come in after mowing unless he goes to the basement shower first ;) |

We have been together for 28 years and married for 25 years so I totally understand about the training. Believe me that I have been able to train many bad habit in all those years. This one I just can't seem to be able to break. :thumbdown He's on vacation all week and he's been working in our laundry room painting and hanging new cabinets. When he is finished I am planning on putting a small bench with storage for him to use~which he claims will enable him to remove his shoes when he comes home from work. But the real issue is that he does not understand the cement is coming off the sides of the boots and not the bottom. He will show me the sole and point out that they are clean. He really just does not get it. |

Well we have 20 yr old carpets so everybody walks on them but we are planning on getting new carpets and I will expect everyone to take their shoes off at the door. If you have new carpets I dont blame you for being upset it is very difficult to get carpet stains out |
