Food allergies For the human...... Anyone here have severe allergies? My husband and I spent the last 6-7 hours at the ER because my face and hands swelled up and my throat closed up after eating grilled chicken breast and grilled zucchini, squash and carrots. It did the same thing Sunday night after I ate smoked sausage, broccoli, potatoes, mushrooms and rice. I have never been allergic to any of these things before, but I do have a wheat intolerance. I have an appointment Monday with a dr to do an elimination diet. Until then I have to eat only one thing at a time, carry an epi-pen and never eat alone. |
Glad you're ok. I don't have any allergies that I know of. Any chance it was a seasoning? I hope you find out soon what is causing the trouble. The elimination diet sounds tough! |
That sounds scary. Had you been able to eat all these things before? No food allergies here. I sure hope you get it figured out. |
I was also going to suggest any seasoning or event the possibility of a contaminated utensil from a more popular allergen... For example my best friend is allergic to nuts and peanut butter, her boyfriend cannot even have it in the house cause the aroma or the risk of contamination can make her sick (someone not properly cleaning peanut butter from say a knife). So also consider what other people in the house may have eaten around the same time, or what pots and pans may have been used to cook. Glad you are ok, I hope you find out what's wrong ASAP. |
wow that sounds scary glad you are ok. |
That just sounds so scary Im sorry your going through it |
No seasonings were used. The first time everything was cooked in the house on the stove, yesterday we were at a restaurant. I specifically asked for nothing to be put on my food. Elimination diet can't be any worse than not being able to breathe! It was super scary! Quote:

Was the chicken smoked or slightly smoked also (like the sausage)? Even if was on the same grill as something that was prev smoked...might be something to consider...? |
I also have severe multiple food allergies. There are very few things that I can eat so I have to be extremely careful. I carry 2 Epi Pens and benadryl with me at all times and can no longer eat out. It is very frustrating but on the good side I have lost a lot of weight!!!:) |

Btw, make sure you always carry Benadryl w/ you...if you have a response again, you'll have Benadryl w/ you. Talk to your doc about this too...often, they'll have you take twice the normal dose if you have an already known (potential for) reaction. Keep us posted! :) |
