Mattress reviews? I've searched the threads and didn't find a whole lot of talk. I'm wondering if the Tempurpedic mattress is really as hot as some reviews I've read. My hubby is pretty hot natured so we don't need a mattress that will make that worse at night. He has back issues so I think for that you're supposed to go with a firmer mattress. Would you consider Tempurpedic a firm mattress? Or does someone have a better suggestion? |
Maybe you could get one of those memory foam toppers. We bought a queen size 3 inch from Sam’s Club for $100.00 and I love it. Our mattress was a good one, but around 7 years old, and I started having back problems again. Also, I was getting leg cramps, and I read that pressure spots could cause this. So I was thinking about buying the Tempurpedic when I found these toppers. The one we bought is made from a a material that isn’t supposed to get hot, which is important here in Phoenix, and it comes with a mattress cover, which I’m sure helps as well. The memory foam does take away pressure points, my leg cramps are gone, and my back is no longer stiff in the morning either. I think at least one of these toppers could tell you if you want to invest in the Tempurpedic and both Sam’s Club and Costco sell them and will take these back if you don’t like it, but for me, I’m not sure if I’ll ever get a new mattress, I think I’ll just buy one of these again when it shows signs of wear. Concerning a firm mattress for a bad back, that use to be the prevailing wisdom, but not so much anymore, you want it firm not saggy, but there can be padding that relieves pressure. |

Oh, I had a heckuva time when I moved to a lil house the other year & bought all new beds for my home (my kids took their old beds to college with them and I just wanted new one). That meant buying 4 new beds all at once, two for the kids, one for me & one for the guest room! The kids picked their own out but when it came to me I just couldn't decide. I finally narrowed it down to two beds, both beautyrest, but one more firm than the other. I LOVE to snuggle into a squooshy bed, but sometimes my back hurts & I need something a lil firmer. So I bought a soft one for my room and the firmer model for the guest room and I decide where I'm sleeping at night depending on which firmness I want :D I've slept in tempurpedic beds and personally just don't like them. They get too hot, and I'd would only chose to sleep on one with lots of mattress toppers, featherbeds, mattress pad, and excellent quality sheets that put you well above the mattress itself. But my biggest complaint with them is that they are....difficult to move around on ;) |
I have the Tempurpedic cloud supreme .....and I hate it!!! It's sooo hard it took me a good 3 weeks before my back stopped hurting.... 1800 down the toilet!!! My hubby hates it too!!! I suggest taking a 5 min nap on anything before you buy! |
We have a tempurpedic and we absolutely love it. I don't find it hot, but many people do. I do find it harder to turn over, but then you don't need to turn much and you learn how to do it the best way. My husband has back problems and after we got the tempurpedic, his back does not bother him nearly as much. My advice is to try to sleep on one before you buy. Also Tempurpedic has a 90 day money back guarantee so if you don't like it, they will take it back. |
All I can say is....do *not* get a Simmons Beauty Rest Pillow Top...they're really expensive, and a total waste. If you look online, you'll see thousands of customer complaints. Stay away! |

Hhmmm... I absolutely love my Simmons Beauty Rest beds! I have the plush tops not pillow tops...but still...I wouldn't think it would make that much of a difference. After shopping for 4 beds within a couple of months, I discovered how important it is to compare 'apples to apples'. Many stores and discount stores carry the same brand names, but not necessarily the same quality line in each brand. |

I love my simmons beauty rest. We had a queen (pillow top) for about 11 years and about 5 years ago decided to move up to a king size (it's a plush top), both are great. Mine weren't any more expensive then similar sets from other companies, but I bought them from the Navy Exchange, maybe they are priced better than in regular retail stores. I agree with other posters that you should lay on the bed and "nap" for a little bit before you decide. Good luck. I hope you find something you like that lets you get a good night's sleep. :) |
Okay, so the decision is 99% made.... Serta iComfort Insight. It's a memory foam but has an "extra added ingredient" of some kind of cooling gel that prevents it from sleeping hot. We loved it when we tried it out and then I found out this morning that one of my officemates just bought one a couple weeks ago. I knew they had gotten a new mattress but didn't ask what it was. She says it's been the most awesome couple weeks of sleep ever. There is an iComfort a step up that includes an extra 2" of padding on top of the foam but I didn't like how my body would sink down into it. There's really no price haggling because apparently Serta makes all dealers sell for the same exact price and then everyone has "promotions" at the same time. The saleslady said that she thinks they are having a free pillow promotion next month and if they are then she'll give me the pillows now for free. Always wanted to try out one of those kinds of pillows too. The mattress has a 25 year warranty and a 120 day in-home trial period. I think this is the one! If anyone is interested, I'll give an update after a month or so. :D |

One of the neat things about this iComfort one is that if it ends up getting craters in it (and you "shouldn't" so they say), once the crater is an inch deep, they replace the mattress. I can live with that. ;) |
