Would this tick you off? Ok guys, I am majorly ticked off here and I was just wondering if any of you would feel the same or am I over reacting. Ok, I live in a neighborhood community where the houses are pretty close to one another. Everyone parks their car next to the sidewalk. We are *supposed* to park our vehicles in front of our house. Well, my husband and I only have 2 cars. I park mine by the sidewalk leading up to our house and he is behind me. Then directly in front of my house is an open area. No one is supposed to park there because it is if front of OUR property and only we are supposed to park there. Each resident in our neighborhood really are only supposed to have 2 cars because that is really the only amount of space that is alotted. Well, our neighbor behind us has a new girlfriend shacking up with him and now is trying to squeeze 3 vehicles (all oversized) into the space where he is supposed to only have 2. Ok, so that is the background. Now, Wednesday is our neighborhood trash collecting day. We are supposed to put our trash cans just off the sidewalk in front of our house. The garbage truck in our area has one of those mechanical handles that comes off the truck, picks up the can, empties it, and puts it back. There is not a guy that gets off the truck and loads the can onto it. So this is the reason we need to put the trash can in front of our house and at least 5 feet from our car...in order for the trash guy to be able to collect our cans. Well my husband and I work nights so we are not always able to pick up our trash can as soon as the trash man leaves, BUT we always move it Wednesday night. The can is sitting out there empty a max of 6 hours. As long as we have lived here, there has never been a complaint. Well I walk outside tonite to go put the can away in it's normal spot behind our house and someone has rolled the can up right to our front door. Kind of their way of saying 'hey, move your trash can.' Well first off, this TICKS me off! That is MY trash can and I pay the bill to have it collected. I also have the right to the concrete that it is parked in. It says so in our lease. But I just know it's our neighbor behind us who moved it and is his way of saying...your can is in my way and now I can't fit all of my 3 gigantic vehicles in as long as your can is blocking my way. Well, needless to say, I am so mad I could scream right now! That area in front of MY house is not for HIS cars! So I rolled the can right back out there and left it for him to see first thing in the morning. Kind of my way of saying...don't move my trash can! It's my property as long as I pay the bills for it! NOT YOURS! Now, I'm so mad that I think I'll start parking my car where I normally put the trash can. Let's see him try to move my car! Am I overreacting? I mean, I am a very friendly person. And you know if he would of knocked on my door and politely asked me to move the trash can I would of had no problem moving it. But he didn't ask. He's never even complained about the trash can. But if he had, I would of apologized and tried to set my alarm to wake me up and move it as soon as I know it's empty. But the fact that he just put it directly on my front porch as a 'message' just really makes me so mad. I mean, that is so RUDE! No manners whatsoever! Sorry to write a novel here, but I am steamed! AHHHH! I hate neighbors sometimes! |
Welcome to my world...I had someone literally push my greens keeper directly behind my vehicle in my driveway because God forbid on trash day it was in their way on their morning walk. Fast forward...I jump in my car early that morning and start to back out when I hear a crunch......it literally sounded & felt like I had run over a small child or an animal!!! I put a sign on my trash cans that said my property was monitored with security cameras and the next time they touched anything on my property, I'd let the dogs out! Lol...little do they know "the dogs" are really 3 :aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork little big baby Yorkies! Needless to say, it never happened again! Rather than have any animosity to fester...better to just go speak with your neighbor and resolve it now before you start making signs like I did!:D |
It just depends are you sure that is the homeowner area to park usually out in the street is public parking |

LOL! OMG! I so thought of going to put a sign on my trash can too! I told my husband I was going to put one on there that said if this is not your property, don't touch it or a outraged southern belle will be showing you the meaning of pain! LOL. He said I was nuts! But I just couldn't help it. It just made me so mad! I did go and put the trash can back behind our house where it goes, but I also moved my car up to where the can normally is to get MY message across that this is MY property and I won't be bullied. My neighbors are so rude. They have never been nice. I wave at them and say 'hello' all the time and they just stare at me like I've lost my mind. They refuse to speak. I'd like to know just what they have stuck up their rears! Ha ha |

are you sure he wasn't just being neighborly, bringing up your trash can? I have a hair salon in front of my home, and if I don't bring up my trash can right away, a customer always rolls it up for me. |
Well let me re-phrase...it isn't MY property per say. It's my landlords as he owns it. But I pay the rent and I was told where I could and couldn't park. I abide by the rules and as long as I obey the rules and pay my rent on time (which I do), I don't think I should be bullied around. As where the guy behind us is breaking the rules written in black and white on our lease. Can you tell I'm just peeved?! Ok, off my soapbox for now. I'm getting over it! Just had to vent! Sorry guys! :) |

well, if he did it to be rude, then he's an @$$! He doesn't deserve so much as an acknowledgement. I would ignore him totally, and if he continues to be a problem....take it up with the landlord. |

I say choose your battles. Is it really worth it??? Maybe it's just me, but it doesn't seem like that big of a deal. Here our streets are public. I don't always get to park on front of my house (and I own it). If I want guaranteed parking, I have a 2 car driveway and garage. Also, my city owns my sidewalks and my trash cans. They aren't my property. The trash cans are provided by the city for trash collection, as well as my recycling bin. Like I said, maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't care. |
i would talk to the landlord either way. just verify about the parking situation and make sure it's not public property like most sidewalks and streets are considered in lots of towns and cities. our sidewalk including the part of our driveway the is over the sidewalk and past the sidewalk to the street is considered public property. it is ours to fix if it gets cracks and we are liable if someone trips or got hurt due to a crack, but it's public property for people to be on or do anything they life we're just required to maintain it for them i guess. also our streets are public domain. as long as you don't block a driveway or a fire hydrant and park on the right ride of the street you can park anywhere you'd like. just check with the landlord for sure and maybe speak with the neighbor that if he has a problem with the cans please just let you know next time but you appreciate him being "ever so kind" as to bring it up to your house. ;) kill him with kindness. |

I've also never heard of limiting vehicles? My city isn't going to tell me I can't have a vehicle for myself, my daughter, my son and my spouse. Heck at one time we had 7 vehicles-4 personal and 3 work trucks. No one said a thing. Work trucks are now at the office but we still have 4 personal vehicles in front of the house. |
Thanks everyone for your input! I appreciate all points of view! It helps me to analyze the situation a bit better and not go off the handle and do something I might regret later. I think I just really get so mad because all my life I have been so quiet and pretty much let people walk all over me. But the past few years as I get older, I realize that I am not this weak little person. I refuse to be treated in a rude manner. So now I think I may over compensate sometimes and take things that aren't that big of a deal too big? Know what I mean? But I still am not happy about the situation. I know I am definitely going to speak with my landlord about the situation, very nicely and professionally. I am not saying anything to our neighbor at this point. I just hope the situation will work itself out on it's own. But from now on I think I will either put the trash can in a different spot or try to move it asap. I don't want to fuss with them. They are not worth it the more I think of it. Again, thanks for your input! :) |
