I have been so excited about your birthday, Marian. You are an amazing woman with courage, fortitude, and such a fine character. I have grown to admire and care about you listening to Jackie speak about you. The bond between mothers and daughters is very special, and you and Jackie are both so lucky to have each other. I lost my Mom right before I turned twenty, but her love remains very powerful for me. You and Jackie share a very special relationship, and you raised a beautiful daughter. Happy Birthday Marian on your 97 th birthday!!

Patti, your post is beautiful. I can only imagine the lives that Marian has touched by teaching young children. I just began my 33rd year of teaching, and I continue to remain close with many of my students long after they have graduated from high school. I often speak to them about what they remember most about their experiences throughout their entire schooling. Students might remember the subject matter, but more likely what a student remembers most in school is a relationship that he/she has with a teacher and how that helped shape him/her into someone who has a more positive self-esteem and stronger moral fiber. Knowing Marian's character, I am sure she had a wonderful effect on the young children she taught, and I am certain that she shaped their lives in a positive way.

It has been a tough ordeal for both Marian and Jackie, and it is now a time that they can both gather their strength and renew their health. It is also a time that they can celebrate the special, loving bond that they share as mother and daughter. I'm wishing both of them peaceful, comforting, loving, and healthy times ahead. They surely need that after what they both have been through. I'm sure little Wyatt, Widget, Abby, and Marian's love, Hannah, will help both of them feel better.

Jackie and Marian are truly lucky to have you, Patti. You are truly a special person. You are so thoughtful and caring. Marian's flowers are beautiful! I know Jackie is a wonderful friend to you, also, and I'm glad that you have each other. I also pray for you and Jack and, just like Jackie and Marian, I also wish both of you peace of mind, lots of love and health, and serenity. I hope your strong faith helps you to overcome the obstacles you face and gives you hope. Thank you for starting this thread for these two very special people.

Thank you everyone for your birthday wishes for my mom. She was totally independent and after a fall her life has been full of challenges. She broke her hip and arm and has had a tough recovery. She spent several weeks in a rehab facility and has surprised everyone with her stamina and perseverance. I have watched her struggle and am amazed at how far she has come. I don't know that I would have fought so hard to get back on my feet at her age.*

I'm so sorry that I didn't post yesterday, but I so enjoyed talking with you yesterday. I'm normally very shy, but I love talking with you. You are a very special woman, and you and Jackie are so lucky to have each other. You set a beautiful example, one that every teacher should aspire to be like. It's a role that I take so seriously, and I know from speaking to Jackie and you that you have made such a beautiful difference in so many lives. Happy belated birthday, special one. I wish you health and much love, laughter, and happiness.

Thank you all for your birthday wishes. Leave it to Patti to remember. I shared the thread with my mom and she also sends her thanks. It was a quiet day and her best gift was a homemade apple pie! When you get to be 98 most of what you want is conversation with friends and family. I thank God that she has a sound mind even though her body is getting frail. I am so lucky to have a mom that has lived for almost a 100 years! She has done well and spends most of her time reading. Some very special friends of mine gave her a kindle for Mother's Day and she loves it! I bet there are not many at 98 reading on a Kindle and able to recall what they read.*
She has been my best teacher, has always been there for me and I am so happy to be able to give back some of the care that she has given to me.*

Your Mom sounds amazing and Bless her heart for using the Kindle.

I'm so glad you are enjoying your Kindle, Marian. I love mine, and it makes it so much easier on my eyes. I also love that you can click on a word and bring up a definition, and the x-ray feature is wonderful. I don't have a lot of free time, but I hear Words with Friends is a lot of fun. We should try it sometime.

Jackie, what you wrote about your mom is really touching. The two of you understand what love and commitment is all about.
