Saw this on TV and putting down what I remember: Get all deeds, titles, insurance policies, birth certs, passports and papers you might need post-storm in case of serious damage and a time away from home. They said take a video of the property and vehicles w/tags and belongings and keep that with all the paper things listed above in a waterproof bag/container. Then the above lists of flashlights, batteries, water, food, radio, etc. That in addition to your medications(enough for a time away from home if need be), and all the ID, supplies for your pets for the same amount of time with a good carrier. That's all I can recall right now. Please stay safe and know we are praying daily alot for you all at risk! |

Our neighborhood lost a lot of trees and roof shingles during Hurricane Izzy in 2003, although I am pretty sure Izzy was only a tropical storm by the time it got to us. The first year we had Max, we came close to having a tornado and I was ready to take cover under a bunch of comforters in our powder room. I'm still kicking myself for choosing a house that doesn't have a basement. |
praying for all of my coastal friends. God Bless you and keep you and put a huge hedge of His protection around your homes. (have you ever heard of boarding up the windows? something i saw/read in a nicholas sparks book once) |

Boarding windows has its advantages and drawbacks. We can't do it outside because it would destroy the window casings/siding. Inside, it would create a huge mess to fix. It might be safer, but I'm guessing if our windows blow out, the roof is going to be torn off too. |
Still cat 3. Our gov has already declared a state of emergency. This is scarey. |

I pray that everybody is taking this seriously and preparing. Even if it turns out to be a false alarm, it is good practice to be prepared. It truly can make the difference between life and death, not just inconvenience. Remember, people come first, everything else can be replaced. Know your evacuation plan. |
oh I am praying everyone will be ok. The 100 mile winds are bad.. but not the worst it could be. Andrew was a cat 5 .. so I tend to think of the worst. Just prepare the best you can..... be safe as you can!! |
Sending all of you prayers and hugs. Please stay safe!!! I know nothing about hurricanes but sounds like you all know what to do. Keep us posted if you keep electricity. |
Prayers and be safe to everyone in the path. |
Wishing everyone a safe weekend....remember rarely is there a loss of life in a hurricane...we get lots and lots of warning...not so with a tornado or earth quake...we decided to buy a Florida house 6 mos ago in an area planted with Florida trees...it is the safest way to go...why builders disregard design and landscape is beyond me...build a glass house on the beach and you are begging for trouble....best wishes |
We took down all our hanging baskets and put away pool furniture, hubby got gas for the chainsaw . . .we have enough food, water, candles, flashlights, etc . . .getting beer and wine and dog food tomorrow . . .I think I'm most concerned about how it's going to affect the dogs . . .poor Rhianna is petrified of thunderstorms . . .don't know how she will react to hurricane winds . . . It stinks because this weekend was Welcome Weekend for DS at his college and they have cancelled all activities . . .he's been looking forward to that since Graduation . . . I'm hoping we don't lose power . . .everyone stay safe! |
my sister is preparing talked to my sister this morning. They are getting things up around the house, checked out the generator. She lives in Swansea, Mass (southern new england) Hurricane Bob left her 4 weeks without power. My big concern is she is 2 city blocks from the saltwater. They didn't leave last time and I am afraid for her this time if the storm comes in at high tide. Please pray for Jane, she is all I have left of my family. I have already lost a mom, dad, older sister, and older brother last year. Jane is my baby sister, I am 62, she is 56. Getting older shows me everyday that the important things in life are not things. thank you my yorkie friends |

Wow, just saw on news that 65 million people are in the path. Hope everybody has taken this seriously and are taking steps to stay safe, especially from flooding. |
Thinking about everybody that has to deal with this. :( Don't forget a first aid kit for all your pups. Things to help with cuts, broken legs, etc. Also Benadryl.. If it's hot down there right now, I'd also be looking into battery operated fans to try and keep pups cool if need be. |
My thoughts and prayers are with everyone out there and YT members, we will be checking on all of you. Stay safe and love on those dogs! Irene = a kink in the plans! We put son on flight yesterday for Boston (I cried almost all day). He was going on a 5 or 6-day school-orientation backpacking trip in Maine, New Hampshire or Vermont. Hubby and I fly out there tomorrow, & shop for all his needed items (spread, files, shelves, etc. etc). Wednesday morning we were to meet up with him, move him into the dorm and fly out that afternoon. (ATTN NON-YT WEIRDO STALKER POSSIBLES: We have housesitters coming and they're BIG! And mean! To say nothing of Zoe  :D) D*$n Irene has cut his trip short and they're busing him back to campus (at least less dangerous). Don't know if our flight will leave, if we'll end up in a hotel without power or water, who knows?! I'm trying to practice flexibility and peace with what "is". This should be an experience! |
