What year was Charley? I'm glad you and your family made it through safe. We have had a couple of tropical storms that were enough for me.

Gosh that was about 8 or 9 years ago. Matt was only about 8 years old.

We were there to visit Disney World and our vacation got cut short! We were there with another family and we stayed in one room and watched the storm all night - until all the electric went off; phones down; and we finally went to sleep. The wind was blowing palm trees coming down - I will never forget it and neither will my son.

I hope you don't get that.

That's how I knew it was true love...locked up in a house with a new husband, two stepsons, a dog, two cats and a guinea pig..haha. No power and no water...Thank god for youth!
It was really nice a sense of community, not always practiced.:)

All- Please be safe, I will say a prayer for you all.

Keep your phones and computers charged and have a full tank of gas. Make sure you back up any important files you may have on your computer and place all important documents in a safe place.

Good luck to all who are in the path! My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Having endured hurricane Iniki here, and 2 tsunami evacuations, my best advice is to plan ahead for evacuation, and if that is an option, do it as early as possible. If you are in danger, and have a safe place to go with friends or relatives, then get there way before the storm is predicted to hit. Iniki hit here 8 hrs. before it was predicted, and people weren't prepared because they thought they had more time.

It is sad to watch lines of panicy people trying to evacuate or get gas in blocked traffic.

About pets, I'd make sure they had an ID tag on at this time, even if you don't usually like collars. Just in case they become separated from you, it sure helps get them back to you quicker.

And this will sound crazy, but in cases of these emergencies, I think people, especially kids, should even have some type of ID attached to them, like a bracelet w/name, address, phone.

The predicted path of the eye of the storm keeps moving closer to us. :eek: I just returned from Walmart and no one seems worried. No one was stocking up on supplies.

dagnamit...it was worth a shot. People here wait till the last minute...we have had so many false alarms over the years...Saturday walmart will be crazy! I will go tommorow and get it over with.

Remember also..this can still shift out to sea. I want to come back as a meteorologist...only job you can have and be consistently wrong at and still be employed.LOL!

The clerk at the store told me worrying does no good. I told her, worrying is essential. It's when I don't worry that really bad things happen. :p

I know right..haha. I think being cautiously aware is better than worrying, but that is what works for me. I can never "show" my worry in my job, got to keep that poker face at all times. I guess I bring that home as well.
