It just seems like it would be obvious if the woman were "mauled", which to me, means ripped open. They said that they shot the dog because it got loose. How did it get loose, was the husband involved with that? I mean if he wanted the dog shot, all he’d have to do is leave the door open. With the dog dead, it’s easier to show it was aggressive.

I just went to a couple of the blogs that posted that story and the dog was supposedly put out back while the EMT's and police were there, it got out of the yard and, covered in blood, was shot by an officer. One of the stories I read say she was found in the living room and the husband told them the dog killed her. If you google the terms up come all of the forums burning up the 'net on this subject. I could not find a follow-up story by that newspaper so we'll just have to wait and see until some other reputable source weighs in. But it sure does seem odd to call a blunt force trauma head wound from a fall a "mauling" type injury, doesn't it?

Saying he was licking her on those blogs. The Reuters story said she had a lot of upper body trauma and one of the officers said he had never seen anything like it in 13 years. There was a 2nd pitbull said to be cowering in the corner when officers arrived or when the husband got home - doesn't say which. I still have yet to see a reputable report that it is not a mauling and only the blogs reporting but maybe the news services are just waiting for the autopsy though usually they do follow-up on related or subsequent stories.

You're in charge of keeping us updated with the most reliable stories! I feel so badly for accusing the pit bull if he was really innocent.

Oh, me too but bear it mind they are the breed dog type that causes the most deaths and I think Rotties are second. I love both of the breeds, myself, it is just the dangerous tenacious aggression breeding that has caused them to become maulers and killers. Could be bred for non-aggessive temperament and many pit breeders are saying they are doing that. Once we see the rate of deaths and lifelong injuries began to taper off for this breed type, then we will know we have passed the crisis point. I saw this happen to Doberman's years ago and their breed clubs totally got busy and changed that. Don't see that really happening with the gangsta and drug culture of these days who seem to be behind most pit breeding and fighting and then selling puppies they don't keep to the public. As for the poor dog in this story, if he did kill the woman, he did what he was genetically predisposed to do - attack something weak and be tenacious and don't back off until it stops moving. If he didn't and she fell or worse, he died completely in vain. I hate to see a/in dog die naturally from old age or illness/injury but to die because of a mistake is such a special tragedy. Right now I can't spend a lot of time online but if I see anything on this, will post it or a link. This is one story I haven't heard on the news networks at all yet and you think it would be - course maybe I have just missed it. Whichever way this story ends, it will be awful - but worse yet if that dog died for something he didn't do. Course whatever large breed he was, under the circumstances, the police still would have shot him once he was out of the yard all bloody and a suspected killer. If he were loose and they could not readily corral him, they have a duty to keep the public safe.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who had this thought. I do hope the truth will come out, and put an end to all the wild speculations. It is a tragedy, no matter how you look at it.

This has a little more info on details. Odd the way the husband told her work what had happened. Haven't found anything more recent other than those blogs.

I just can't take it anymore - have to say I think him burying that dog in the casket with his wife is horrible - if it really killed her - and the husband is saying that it did! Could you bury your loved one with anything that you thought killed him or her????

I'm just so suspicious of the whole thing. I'm pretty sure it would be difficult to fool the good medical examiner.

Well, so the poor woman and her baby died from the mauling after all and still her husband is going to bury that dog with her - and the baby, according to that earlier newspaper article? That is just horrible to me - she loved that dog but not while it was killing her and her baby, I'm sure. Despite his poor decision to bury her with her killer(the dog was doing what its genes were programmed to do), I hope that poor man can one day find some solace and peace. Such a tragic story but it won't be the last one of these. I hope something can be done before so many others die this way.
