Is anyone a dentist/dental hygienist? I am looking for help!! Behind my last molar on the bottom my gum is very very sore. I know I do not have wisdom teeth as I have had x-rays and have had my top 2 removed- however, the best way I can describe the pain is like a tooth is coming in. When I look at that area I expect it to be very red but it is not- It hurts when I press down on it with my tongue and is overall quite painful. It went away earlier this week for a couple of days so I thought perhaps I had a popcorn kernel stuck that had found its way out- but alas- it is back. Any thoughts? |
I think the only person able to answer this is a dentist...go for a look see...good luck |

I know...I put off getting a fallen out filling done recently...no pain, just do not like it...maybe all you need is an xray to see if there is a tooth/bone fragment...or you can be like me and give everything 3 months to clear up..LOL |
Use hydrogen peroxide that is made for a dental rinse. Just the kind you buy at the drug store - ?3%? Wait an hour and use a warm, gentle saline or saline/baking soda rinse. Google these terms and you will find the parts to use per water. The peroxide will go straight to the inflammed area and start to fizz. That fizz action can work out particles of things that shouldn't be there. Follow up with a good flossing of the area and then the saline rinse. No water for a while so that the saline can work. You can do this while waiting to see a dentist. I have had popcorn stuck like this and this method helped tremendously! Hope is helps you. Just be sure to use the hydrogen peroxide made for mouth rinsing and not that for hair lightening! P. S. You can apply some Orajel (?spelling?) or something like that if it is very sore till you see the dentist. |
I agree with Pat. Waiting a good 3 months to see if the problem will spontaneously disappear isn't a bad idea. lol You gotta go in. Sorry. :( I hate it too. I wonder if they can be missed on xray. I'd be very suspicious that it is a wisdom tooth. Could be something going on with the last molar that you do have too. Best to get it checked. |

Could be the root on the tooth next to the pain, a growth or a bone problem. See a Dentist. |
i was very lucky and got in this morning- after some very painful digging around (i didn't want a needle to freeze me so he gave me some topical freezing) he found the culprit- a popcorn kernel. that sucker had been in there for a while and I am feeling so much better- still sore but it doesnt hurt to talk now which is great! thank you all so much. you gave me the push i needed! |

Glad it was so simple as a kernel...it might have worked its way out in 3 mos, maybe not LOL LOL LOL If I want to get rid of a health problem all I have to do is make a doctor appt...suddenly the day before or while sitting in the waitng room the problem vanishes...can't figure it out... I had a few fillings and the dentist told me if the teeth were still sensitive in 2 wks, they would need root canals...that is when I wait 3 mos on teeth...it always takes my tooth nerves a good month to 3 to go back to normal...not pain, just sensitive to chewing and cold. |
The kernal thing happened to me, too, and also I once had a bone sliver in my gums. It was all the way in the back & I was having wisdom teeth issues so I thought it was that. Finally I could feel it coming out & what a relief when it was gone! It hurt more than the dang wisdom tooth! |

Heard the same thing from my Dentist. He also said that a Popcorn Kernal can kill the tooths root. I had one stuck under a crown not long after a root canel. It drove me crazy and the dentist was able to get it out. I think it is best not to chew pop corn, but to swollow it whole. Maybe that will cause choking to death. No more pop corn! |
:2popkorn: My dentist told me the same thing about popcorn!!! |
