What do you do for animal allergies? Almost positive that I'm allergic to the new pup. Stuffy, itchy nose, itchy feeling in throat, itchy eyes. I knew I was allergic to animals, but didn't think it was this bad. Besides keeping your face away (which I can't stand the thought of :( ), what do you do to control symptoms? |
Have you tried any over the counter allergy meds? |
I'm about to go dig the Claritin out of the cupboard. Just don't want to live on drugs over doggie dander and/or doggie spit. Maybe I'll have to though. |
I had allergy shots for several years, it really helped. Now I take allergy medicine, zyrtec d twice a day. I also try to keep everything as clean as possible and bath the furkids every week. Perhaps you can bath the new puppy with a shampoo that helps eliminate the dander and allergens. Here is a shampoo I have heard great things about... I am allergic to almost everything (dust, pollen, trees, cats, grass, nickel, latex, and so on and so on and so on...). I control them using Allegra OR Claritin OR Benadryl OR Zyrtec and when I have a particularly bad flare, I take one of the above with a Zantac 75 OR a Zantac 150. The first list are Histamine 1 blockers and Zantac is a Histamine 2 blocker and it puts me in good order. For everyday problems though, one of the 1st list do just fine. I also rinse my nose at least twice a day. I cannot stress how important it is. I originally used a plastic squeezy bottle thingy but now use an electric powered machine. That usually rinses off any allergens that have managed to get in there before they do any damage to my day. Allergies suck but I am learning to live with them. One day I think I will get sick of it all and go for the shots. |
I was told to use wipes and wipe the dog or cat down frequently, but especially when coming in from being outdoors. |
I grew up with the same allergies, my mom would never allow dogs, I had no reaction to allie but my younger son did at first, itchy eyes, sneezing, little bumps on his arms, But after a few days it went away, like he got used to it? now he can pet kiss anything any no reaction! if that makes any sense. hope you feel better. |
