It's all about the cut and the product that is put into the hair. My best suggestion would be to go to a good salon, ask the stylist what she would recommend and them purchase the product that she suggests to use for the style.

The pictures that Deuce posted are all very cute but to achieve the lift you need to use a root lifting product then use the blow dryer while lifting the hair away from the head.. If she likes a slight wave you need to use a wave product. My daughter has pretty fine hair as well but is able to have a slight wave by using a defuser and a salon product. When she wants the straight look she has a different one for that as well. She is able to achieve the "beach look" in only a few minutes time.

It really is all about using good quality shampoos and following the suggestions of your stylist. The stuff you buy at Walmart will weigh the hair down and not give that same salon styled look.

Also, you need a decent blow dryer with a cool setting. Heat and then a shot of cool will help lock the style.

I wore my hair almost exactly like in the pic of Ashley Simpson for a few years, and it was not bad in looking fairly edgy, and got some more texture and volume. However, bf finally told me he did not like my hair that short. It kept getting shorter and shorter each time I got it cut. hee hee

Then early this year I got my hair permed with a soft wave. It was really nice, but the perm fell out after a month or so. My hair is so fine but so hard to hold a curl, even with chemicals! However, I was able to use a flat iron and use it to curl my hair after a shampoo and the slight wave would hold really god for days bc of the perm underneath. If I had no perm and tried to curl my hair it would fall flat before I left the bathroom. Now that the weather's been hot, I have not been doing my hair at all and just putting it up in a clip. I can't stand hair on my neck with I am working, or if it's hot even if I'm not working. I don't know how some people can stand that.

I don't know any who can...I force myself if I spent a lot of time flat ironing my hair, and putting product in it (but I'm miserable the whole time). Otherwise it gets pulled off my neck. I really wish I could pull off shorter cuts, but I prefer to not do anything at all to it unless I'm doing something fancy.

Well there are two girls in the shop right now with long thick hair, both have them down, and they are going to ride all the way home. It's hot outside btw. LOL

Deuce 07-27-2011 11:09 AM

They must be miserable, lol, having my hair down raises my temp by at least 10 degrees.

You absolutely have to get a hairdresser that can work with fine hair. If you find one; he or she will be worth their weight in gold!

My hair is the same and it has been cut in a 60s style (which is back in style) shag for about 3 years. Sometimes it is long (right now half way down my back) sometime REALLY short, but the cut always looks good.

My hair is razor cut to get the look. Do NOT let anyone tell you that under cutting in layers will help pick the hair up. It just makes for less hair. I need all I can get.

I was born in '58' and the ONLY thing that I am to old for is SHORT skirts but mostly because it would probably scare someone.

These are the type of haircuts that I think are so "mod" and fun!! I wish that my hair would lay like this. I had to laugh at someone writing about the grass being greener on the other side. ;) I've always had thick hair so when I try to get mine cut in a cute hairstyle, they have to thin it out a TON and it never lays cute like what is in these pictures. Your daughter's hair would be so nice in any of these because of her texture.

I do like the first one. Too bad we didn't see it before we went. She ended up with a cut more like the 3rd. I think it looks great on her, but she's having a hard time getting used to it.

Oh well, it's just hair. It will grow back.

Mom to Hot Rod 07-27-2011 09:21 PM

being oriental I have had the long straight hair all my life. I seem to have a lot of hair just above and around my ears. My hairdresser used to laugh at me because I would always tell her to chop it off around there.

Anyhow, I used take a small amount of hair and braid it on each side of my part (whether it was on the side or middle) and pull the brad back so it also held my hair back. I also used to wear it in a french braid a lot. I like this as it really kept my hair off my face and away from my ears. A single one or two with my hair parted in the middle.

Currently I use a lot of head bands and tend to put my hair up in a pony tail. I've actually been growning my bangs out for the past 2 years and they are finally long enough to tuck behind my ears.

Believe it or not, it really isn't that uncommon around here. Quite a few of the girls in her school spend a pretty penny on extensions as well as the fake nails, spray tans and all that jazz. There is kind of a southern version of the jersy-look going on right now.

It never fails though, all of her friends with wavy/curly hair want theirs to be stick straight. She wants some wave to hers and it just won't hold.

The grass is greener syndrome strikes again.

:sidesplt: I know exactly what you are talking about. I always get a kick out of watching the high schoolers get off the bus to see what the style is. You nailed it with that description.

I got a mom-cut at the end of the school year. By mom-cut I mean short, lol. I had hair down to about mid back with layers. IT took F-O-R-E-V-E-R to dry and style. I decided I was going short and simple. I regret it now. :( I went a little to short. Thanfully, vitamins have it growing back pretty good. :)

I am 47 and have such thin hair my scalp shows on top. I finally stopped trying to have longer hair. just looke too bad. I know have a very short hairstyle. They used a # 5 clipper on the back and cut the top so it spikes up.
But I had fun helping to choose a cut for my 24 yrs old dtr the other day. SHe has very thick straight hair. The 3rd pic is what i tried to tell them i liked. It did not come out exactly like that but still looks good. She has to get them to thin her hair a lot. There was a lot of red hair on the floor.

She is the one usually advising me on fashion so it was fun to do the choosing this time.
