Jenny Craig or Nutrisystem Anyone have any experience with either Jenny Craig or Nutrisystem? I am looking at the home delivery, not going to the centers. Please let me know if you have used and/or your success with either of them. I have to do something.....age is not helping my weight. Lol. |

Jenny Craig or Nutrisystem I've had great luck at Jenny. I did go into the centers because I need the accountability of being weighed in front of someone every week. The food is good, especially the frozen food. The 'pantry' food is good, but not quite as good as the frozen. Having said that, my husband and I each kind of hit a plateau (we were getting a little careless too!) and wanted to do something different to jumpstart a new losing cycle. I read Dr Fuhrman's book "Eat for Life" and we're currently on his 6-week plan which is pretty much a diet of fresh produce plus some legumes. It's working well and we've started losing again. We're close enough to our goals that we'll probably not go back to Jenny - we'll see. Anyway, I vote for Jenny but think about going into the centers if feasible. I, personally, am just not as accountable to myself as I am to other people :) Good luck. |
I am open to hear of any other diets that have worked. I can lose it, the problem is when i stop the diet it comes back. I am so sick of it. I did a high protein and lost 32 lbs. I felt good, and thought I looked pretty good for 40! ;) But after I stopped the diet, it found its way back home. :( My only concern with Jenny or Nutrisystem is when I stop buying the food it will just come back. I just bought a treadmill. Hoping it helps! :D |
man.. I wish I knew. I am not good at diets.. I like to eat. I don't have that little thing in your brain that says "stop" I do control myself.. if I didn't I would be 50 lbs more than I am now. I don't think any of the packaged diets work for long. I have been following Dr. Oz.. and the Flat Belly Diet. Mostly I write down everything I eat (I have an apt on my phone) and try to make good choices. I am about 20 lbs down from my highest weight. I have another 100000000 to go:eek: just kidding. I was so skinny as a young woman, I just don't know what happened:eek: And to make it even worst.. when dh and I were dating he joked that if I ever weight more than him (at the time I was about 100 lbs) he would divorce me. I hide the scale -- I have been for 15 years. The darling is still size 30 pant.. got to hate him. |

My DH eats like a horse. All hours of the night. The only thing he has that has changed is his belly. Makes me so mad. I can just look at what he is eating and gain a pound. Another woman issue that is unfair....age and weight gain. Good Lord, you would think child birth and periods were enough!!! |

Shots?!!! What in the world? Never heard of this. I thought I knew all the diet fads!! I have been hearing from my friends that Nutrisystem food was awful. They are saying Jenny's is better. But it is sooooooooooo expensive. And I am a teacher......well lets just say I am not at the top of the pay chain. Poor Tessie. :p Lol. You are going to give her a big butt complex. :D |
Jenny Craig or Nutrisystem? Jenny food IS expensive - that's definitely a downside, unfortunately. My husband and I were on it long enough to get to the 30% discount level but I don't think they offer that anymore. It does help re-establish good eating habits though. We decided to switch to the 'produce' diet after seeing friends of ours who simply switched to healthy vegetarianism just drop weight without really trying. Vegetarianism can be deceiving though if you include tons of pasta and starchy veggies but it's an alternative to paying someone to help you lose weight. And I'm absolutely convinced now that a plant-based diet is the key to good health. I'm a late convert at age 61 but now a believer. My friend who had type 2 diabetes is now totally off medication simply by going veg. Another good book is 'The Kind Diet' by Alicia Silverstone. Her web site The Kind Life is also a good source of info. She's a political vegan which may be off-putting if you don't agree, but the veg info is good and lots of good links. |
Go get a brochure from Jenny Craig. The food is garbage food and is also loaded down with sodium. Not healthy food at all. Be careful. Weight Watchers is the best way to go when you want to lose weight and still be healthy. |
I'm on weight watchers and I really like it because you can have anything you want you just have to watch your proportions. Its not like a supper fast weight loss but it adds up I am losing around 1.5 pounds a week. |
Has anyone tried the Herbalife shakes? Everyone at work is on these and they make some delicious ones. I'm thinking they might work for me because I don't eat anything all day and am then starving at night. Even if I just put the shakes in my body during the day; I'm thinking this could help. My weight is just getting out of control an I hate it. |

The only thing that worked for me consistently was weight watchers. I haven't tried Jenny Craig, mainly because of the cost. Nutri System worked, but as soon as I stopped buying the food I put the weight back on because I hadn't learned how to eat "real" food the right way. |
I tried Nutrisystem for 2 months. I paid appr $230 per month (they gave me a discount). The meals were like MREs and didn't need to be refrigerated. Some of it was good (the desserts) and some was not so good. I had to buy so much food (vegetables, dairy, meat, etc.) to supplement the plan I decided to just stop my membership and just buy all my food at the store. I did learn what to eat and what was low calorie - low fat, and portion control. So that was a good thing. I did lose weight, but very slowly. Overall I lost about 10 lbs, so I went from 120 to 110. So far I've been able to keep it off. I got tired of the food really fast and wouldn't go back, but that is just my opinion and I'm sure there are lots of people really like it. |
I couldn't believe when I saw this thread. I had just asked my daughter for diet suggestions. I've tried them all. I do think WW is the healthiest, but if I'm not going to stick to it I don't see the point in joining. I am lucky if I can stay on it for a week. My daughter purchased the Nutrisystem and after a few weeks sent the rest of the food back. |

As far as taste goes, I think they are nasty! Everyone raves about the cookies and cream shake, but it was too chaulky and not sweet for my taste. Needless to say, I will not be consuming them. My taste buds rule over my desires to eat healthy. :( As far as nutrition goes, they are actually pretty good. I took a class with a registered dietitian. I had her look at the label, and it is pretty balanced as a meal replacement. If this helps any, my dad is epileptic and takes strong medication to control the seizures. The medicine is so strong, it was starting to ruin his liver. He's not a drinker, unless you count the few times he has the communion wine. :p He started with the shakes, and then completely changed his eating habits. He is so healthy now! He was able to find a balance between the drugs and nutrition. He still takes the Herbalife supplements, and has a shake in the morning everyday. When he's lazy, or doesn't have an appetite for food, he has a shake. The man recovered from hernia surgery in 2 weeks and has no scar! The surgeons were surprised at just how clean his body is. I personally could never live like that. I love food too much, and as someone else said, my brain does not tell me when to stop. I'm a very greedy eater. What I did was download an app to my iPod, and it holds me accountable for what I eat. So far, I lost about 20 lbs. :D I've been "off the wagon" this month because my boyfriend is visiting from South America. He'll be gone after next week. :( No more eating out and no more extra calories! |

I love the shakes! But I love all the different ones - dreamsicle; key lime pie, etc. So, I look forward to them. Now if I can just quit eating chips N dip! I'm going to do one of their classes the next one they do. 3-4 women in unit at work go to the classes and I think this will help me as well. Thanks for the info! |

There is one lady who is obese and has been coming here for years to get help with weight management. She has gained more than she has lost. She thinks the shakes are a magic solution to her obesity. She comes here to eat the shake for breakfast, and on any given day immediately goes to IHOP afterward to eat pancakes. Nothing is a magic pill, powder, or technique. That just doesn't exist. |
i just rejoined weight watchers. so far i've lost around 6 pounds. i've never tried Jenny Craig or nutrisystem but i dont think its for me. i dont like having to buy there food. i'm also planning on joining a gym sometime soon, but for now i am just going to start going for walks |
