Hi ladies (and gentlemen),
I thought it would be neat to have a thread dedicated to any skin care questions, concerns, or even advice from one furbaby mother to another. I think with everything we have on our plates it's easy to neglect taking care of yourself and I think skin care regiments tend to be the first to suffer. The internet is a huge resource for information regarding skincare products, but I thought it would be neat if we could not only share advice but as well as our reviews on skin care brands and lines that have worked for you. I read reviews people post online all the time, but I think it's better to know where the review is coming from :)

I hope others find this interesting/worth posting in..if not well...I'll just write to myself here ;)

I think that is a good idea. We could give our own YT reviews of skin care, make up, shampoo products.

For someone who has oily skin, I love Sea Breeze astringent; it’s great for taking off makeup. Lancome Renergie Microlift Rare, it’s the only moisturizer that doesn’t make my skin break out, (I’m old and my skin still breaks out, if I’m not careful.) My very favorite product of all time is a waterproof eyeliner made with clay made by Tarte, emphasEYES, great brush so easy to apply and the product doesn’t smear off. I love this so much and wish I would have had it years ago, I love eyeliner.

Thanks Nancy! I also have oily/combination skin and I'm recently trying to find a routine that will help control oil. I am also very prone to blackheads (which I have yet to find a remedy for) and I also get adult acne.

The only product that I can put my weight behind is the Clarisonic Mia. It is a facial brush that vibrates and completely removes ALL dirt and makeup off your face in a minute's time. Of course, it is not a miracle worker and the brush is only as good as the cleansers you use with it...BUT I wear a lot of makeup everyday and I used to take anywhere from 5-10 minutes to take my makeup off and after drying my face with a white towel I can still see that some stuff would still be left over. The clarisonic does all the work in a minute and because it is cordless you can use it in the shower. I got mine on Ebay for a lot cheaper than retail price.

The only con is that it can be a little harsh on the skin if you overuse it. If you have sensitive or dry skin you probably should not use the Clarisonic daily. Or if you do, you should buy the "sensitive" brushes and use light cleansers that won't irritate your skin.

I think exfoliating is so good for the skin, even as you get older. What kind of price did you get it for on ebay? I use to have a little battery operated brush complexion brush, what makes this so expensive?

I will be completely honest and say that I've never owned another brush besides the Mia. The product page claims the following:

I have not noticed a reduction in my pores so I think that claim is in my opinion exaggerated. I do think that the products you use on your face are absorbed into your skin better, which is why I think gentle cleansers are best to use with the Mia. Personally, I think the cost has to do with the convenience of it. The Mia has a charger that is magnetic and so you just place the charger over the Mia and it snatches into place. The Mia is also waterproof so you can turn it on while you're in the shower (without the cord) and just exfoliate as usual...and the Mia shuts off after exactly one minute so that you don't overuse it. The brush head should be replaced I think every 4 months or so and can be bought pretty inexpensively on Ebay. When I bought my Mia on E-bay a year ago I paid $100. I'm not sure how other brushes work, but I find that this product is indispensable for me to get my face clean after a full day of makeup. I use it once a day after I come home from work/school.

Hhhmmm Im interested in the Clarisonic Mia. Until I turned 30 I never had more than a blemish here and there THEN....I got cystic acne. Its bumps under my skin, so not really pimples so to speak but an actual infection of the germ that causes acne internally. UUUGGHHH I was on meds for awhile, but they made me sick, gave me heartburn sooo bad that I ended up having to have ultrasounds done to make sure my organs were ok.
I saw a dermatologist and she currently has me using Olay products, not Oil of Olay, but the oil free line called Olay. I use the cleaning pads and the moisturizer. I was using a cream called differin she gave me that was more of a spot blemish control thing... it worked really really well... but insurance does not cover it and its super expensive. I was using another cream called clindomycin, but since have stopped that also. I'm considering getting a new dermatologist and seeing what they recommend.

I love Clinique mascara and eyeliner but do not use their facial products at all. I like Bare Minerals powder, but I just try to stay away from facial makeup in general, I do not wear any. Not powder, not foundation, not even spot concealer. I just don't want to make my face worse, it seems to get bad enough all on it's own. I love eye shadow and eye makeup... its so fun... cliniques is ok, but honestly it is no better than any of the cheaper store brands like cover girl and others, and its like 3x the price of those! I love clinique eye makeup remover though.

So anyways, Olay for oily skin works well... the daily moisturizer I only use in the mornings and it has SPF 15 in it.

Sounds pretty cool, I like the idea that it can be used in the shower, that area between neck and breasts needs some help as you get older (I was a sun worshiper).

celstu, my youngest son has cystic acne too. The dermatologist wanted to put him on Claravis (generic version of Accutane) but I was afraid of the side effects. So Dr. put him on Solodyn tablets (also gave us coupons that we only pay $10.00 for the rx) and Epiduo Gel (coupon only pay $35.00). His skin has cleared up nicely. He also gave him injections of Kenalog into the cystic bumps. We go back next month to get him checked again.

I was too. Naturally I am very fair skinned, but I was made fun of a lot in high school for being too "light." So I started tanning (excessively). Fortunately, I am finally embracing my pale skin and hopefully it isn't too late...there's a larger version of the Clarisonic Mia that is supposedly better for the body, but I don't think it's worth the extra money.

I have no experience with your issue, so I couldn't really help... but I'm so glad you found some advice here :)

So funny, as soon as you posted I watched the doctors and they highly recommended the exfoliating brushes! They said you can do practically the same thing at home with these brushes as they do in the office for what costs over $2-300.00. Then, the next show Oprah had Dr. Oz and his 4 ways to look 20 years younger and one of the ways was the darn exfoliating brushes! I got so psyched I had to get one right away.
