Florida I am planning a 2 week trip to Florida. We have never been to Florida! It will be me, DH, DD (12), and DS (7). We are planning to go in May. While we are down there, DH and I will be celebrating our birthday's. Where's the best place in Florida for a family (mostly beach) vacation? Any suggestions/ideas would be great!! P.s It is a dream of mine to see some dolphins in the wild! I have been to beaches many of times, and taken many boat rides that promise to see dolphins...and have NEVER seen one yet! THANKS!!:) |
We are thinking about traveling to somewhere in Florida in our RV with Betty Boop, but we not only want a beautiful beach..we need one that is dog friendly. I bet your entire family is really excited about the trip! It's always fun to get away!:) |

well... it depends on what you want. The Florida Keys are very laid back... water sports, fishing, nice people but the beaches are not so great. The west coast of florida.... Sarasota area have the beautiful white sand beaches.... pm Suggarmamma she can give you info of the longboat key area. High end, pricy I know the area around Siesta Key is great... very busy in the winter.. beautiful beaches. Ft myers area.. and the Islands off are nice, again nice beaches and family friendly like Siesta Key.. and Naples.. On the East Coast you have Ft Lauderdale .. the beach is nice.. Dana Beach, Hollywood beach are old florida. That is what I know:) I live in the Miami/ Homestead area and we go to the keys a lot. So... if you need anything else let me know!! Shinja |
if you want to see the dolphins you should go to Discovery cove and Seaworld. At Discovery cove you get to swim with them at seaworld they have an area where you can feed them. There are also alot of other things at both places to do. I really enjoy going to both places and plan to go there every year. |
My parents always went to Lido Beach (Lido Key) when I was a child. Loved it there. I also love Flagler Beach, both nice beaches. I know that Flagler has a State Park across from the beach that you can camp in. |

Northwest Florida has some of the most beautiful, family friendly beaches anywhere! Destin is a wonderful spot, less chaotic than Panama City, and Pensacola Beach is great, also! It is much less commercial than either of the two places I just mentioned and is teriffic this time of year. There are low-key things as a family you can do, such as visiting the Naval Museum and Lighthouse on NAS Pensacola, check out the Historic District downtown, and there is also a dog beach that you could check out, too! I'm kinda prejudiced, because P'cola is my "backyard", so to speak! Check out their website, it will give you highlights. |
All of the sanibel island beaches are dog friendly. If anyone is taking their RV to Florida...Fort Myers beach has an RV park on fort myers beach and that part of the beach is dog friendly. Have fun! |
I think St. Augustine is pretty charming and the hotels are very nice and inexpensive. I can pass along information of the hotel I stayed in which I absolutely adored. Here's some quick info for you to look at: http://www.floridashistoriccoast.com...aid%252BSearch Another great thing about St. Augustine is that it's only approximately 100 miles away from Orlando which has GREAT theme parks. Disney World has so many different parks you can visit. There's also Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure (which has the NEW Harry Potter theme park!!) |

I live next to Cocoa Beach which is close and convenient to the space center and the Orlando attractions. The beaches are not the most beautiful (regular sand- not white sugar sand, and the ocean is not like the calm gulf waters) but it is easy to get to and the campgrounds are reasonable. Maybe you can narrow it down by how far you want to travel (the keys are another days travel from the panhandle), and what kind of things you will want to do for two weeks! |
