Eardrums lanced-Anyone ever have this done? Has anyone ever had their eardrums lanced to help the fluid drain? If so, I was wondering what to expect if the ENT wants to do this. Well, I'm going on my 4th week with my middle ears totally clogged with fluid! I don't know how much longer I can do this! I will be going to the ENT tomorrow to see what can be done. I just know it will be like starting over again because he has never seen me. I've been doing everything my GP told me to do almost a month ago. Last week, I had to drive 1-1/2 hours to get to an ENT. We only have one group of them here and they couldn't get me in for 2 weeks (which is tomorrow). This all began with a bad sinus infection that turned into middle ear infection. I feel great....it's just my ears are clogged and I'm going insane. |
Bump! |
Bless your heart!!!!!! I really feel for you. I have never had this done or even heard of it. They just always put tubes in to drain the fluid. My oldest has had tubes put in 3 times. It didn't seem to be a big deal to him. But it is a surgery. :( Let us know what the ENT says. |
My ears get blocked a lot but my ENT has this suction thing where he just sucks out the fluid. But since yours is in the middle ear that probably wouldn't work. I hope it goes well. I hate when my ears are blocked it stresses me out. |

I wake up in the middle of the night with panic attacks because of this. It really stresses me out, too. How long do yours stay stopped up and what do you do to help them? I hope this never happens again! |
Do you mean a tympanocentesis or is this something different? I've had it done it that's what it is. |
I don't know the official term. He may want to put drops to deaden the eardrom and then make a small incision so the fluidcan drain or suction it out. The wouldn't put tubes in. |
I had it done in one ear because of a nasty infection. Drops put in to numb, then needle to drain. It was a long time ago. Not sure how many doctors really like doing this anymore... It just felt weird. It was like a pressure/rubbing, but no pain. I felt much better when the pressure was relieved. Wouldn't hesitate to do it again if my doctor though it was needed. |

I just got home from the ENT. He drained one ear and wanted to do the other one. I just had one done because I didn't know what it would be like (pain, sound, etc). I have a little pain, but just took some Tylenol. Now my hearing is out-of-balance. I'm to go back in 2 weeks. If it hasn't drained by then, I'm doing the other one, too. This is miserable!! But, hey, I'm going in the right direction to get help.:) |
I really hope you start to feel better very soon. I also hope the pressure is relieved and that you don't feel any pain. It's so frustrating when something like this lingers. I've had a sinus infection and bronchitis for a few weeks that I can't seem to beat, so I understand how you must be feeling, especially since you also feel some discomfort and pain. Please take care of yourself, and I'll continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers. |
Oh my! You have really had a time with your ears. Glad to see you are getting help! Maybe you will be back to normal before you know it! |
Im happy you were able to finally get some relief, Ive had mine drained several times, it can be painful :( i had so many ear problems as a child, i now have hearing loss from it. mine was mainly the right ear, back then they didnt do tubes like they recomend now, prayers for you to feel better very soon and have this behind you :heart to |

Your poor thing! Do you have bronchitis AND sinus infection often? Oh my! Mine started out with sinus infection and worked its way up to a middle ear infection. I hope you can get yours under control quickly. Are you taking a decongestant to help your sinus drain? You don't want it to travel to the middle ear. I have bronchitis about once a year. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers, too. Get well!:) Quote:
