Vegetables as civil disobedience This is one of those stories that makes you scratch your head and wonder WTH people are thinking. Are tomatoes really such a threat that someone should be jailed over them? Oak Park, Michigan Resident Julie Bass Faces 93 Days In Jail For Vegetable Garden |
It is terrible that she is facing jail when there are probably so many matters most likely more pressing for her City Officials to deal with. It is stupidity |
That's Michigan for you  Refuses to see the forest for the trees:( |
Oh gosh! That's just crazy! |
To me, her garden is an eye sore, but she shouldn't have to go to jail because of it. |

This is why I have absolutely no problem with Home Owners Associations. Before you sign on the dotted line, you know the rules upfront. This thread reminded me of a home we saw in a different county with a lot of chickens running around the frond and back yard. It was an upscale area, and the neighbors were understandable furious. |
my goodness! you can kill a toddler and get out of jail but God forbid you plant veggies for the neighbor kids in the front yard. what is the country standing for??? |

Personally, I'm sick of HOA's. My next house will be out in the middle of no where so I don't have a pizz ant little man telling me my garbage can doesn't match the approved colors in the neighborhood while letting the common areas go to seed. |

This just kind of reminds me of DH's brother's former HOA a few years and a couple of houses ago. The neighborhood had a "thing" against colored Christmas lights and certain yard displays. This was not made known until BIL and SIL worked all weekend on putting up their stuff. The association reps were SO snotty about it, BIL got "the a$$" and "rearranged" the reindeer display. He made it where one of the deer was mounting the other, lol. Needless to say, THAT did not go over so well, but the point was made and nothing else was said about the lights! :D |

LOL. I think I would get along well with your BIL/SIL. I had a nasty neighbor in my last HOA. She was mean to my dogs, would yell at my kids for playing in the backyard (she was always hung over and it's not like the houses were right on top of each other, I had a one acre lot!) and she proceeded to tell me that I couldn't plant a certain type of tree on my property because she didn't like looking at them. You guessed it...I planted a whole boat load of those trees on the property line between my house and hers. When she complained that she had told me she didn't like cyprus trees, I told her they weren't cyprus, they were California FU's. :p |
Wow, talk about a waste of city resources:rolleyes: They need to leave that woman alone and pick on some REAL criminals:mad: Crazy! |
Total waste of money for the city to persue this... ridiculous! Its seasonal, it's done tastefully with those wooden boxes, I think it looks nice... and if her lawn was ripped up, well then give her a summer to have this.... its ridiculous that this needs to go to court! :( |
