Just surreal! It sounded like there were fighter jets flying over our house. Crazy.

Oh my goodness...that is crazy. Did you have a big mess to clean up or hose off?

I was on a mission trip in Mexico once and a dust storm came through. I don't know how it compared, but it was awful. We had dust/sand all over us and it was getting in our eyes and our mouths. We were outside at the time. When we went back to our campsite, our tents had sand all over inside them because we had let them vent out...not open, but the sand and dust came through the mesh windows!

That is so strange & crazy! Not to mention creepy! Hope everything's ok, I've heard of dust storms but had no idea that's how they were.

All of our outdoor furniture is coated in dust/sand...and all the foliage, driveway, pavers. The fountain is clogged, everything is dirty. It's crazy! But it was super cool, lol.

I can't recall how long it lasted...I know we heard weird noises as it was coming in, and then our electricity started flashing, and I think it was quite a while that it was moving over us - the wind was bad and it was very loud.

I was just reading more details and it looks like it was about 50 miles wide, and 8,000-10,000 feet high. It was up to 60 mph. I guess 911 had 720 calls during it, poor peoples.

It's Monsoon season here, so dust storms aren't too unusual - but they're usually always followed/accompanied by rain. I guess this one is called a "Haboob" since it didn't rain. Who knew?

I really wanted to put some swim goggles on and just go out there and be in it :D. Hubby wouldn't do it! I did go outside for a minute to grab some things that might blow away, and I came in covered in a film and eyes full of sand.

Storms are cool.

Wow amazing. I have never seen any video of a dust storm. We have been to Phoenix about 6 times in the past 2 years and I think we had rain once and never saw anything like this. We are coming again end of August is that still the monsoon season?

Now I have this stuck in my head~you are a silly girl :p But I have to confess I would have been right next to you with my goggles too taking in that amazing experience. :)

Yup :). Monsoon season is from June 15-September 30th - so you might be in a Monsoon, or a Haboob!

I like stormy weather, too...up to a point (no more Katrinas, thank you :D). My son took some shots of a huge dust storm while he was out in New Mexico for some training a few years back. Those pics were cool, but nothing like the vid you posted.

Wow, that was just plain freaky. I lived in Arizona for years and never saw anything like that.

I wonder if that dust did damage to things like airplane engines, electronics, etc. and many things that might not be obvious at first. Scary!

I miss Arizona, those dust storms happen a lot and are normal to valley natives. While in Germany my Dad sent me a video tape of the dust storms that came during monsoon...made me home sick. Some people lost power, sky harbor had to delay flights, and a lot of people had a lot of dust to clean up. My brothers always gripe about the messes in their pools. Awesome nature!

Wow, I saw the video of the storm on the news last night. Scary. I just cannot even imagine all that dust cleanup. Glad everyone is okay at your house.

Last night on the news they showed the covering of dust on everything from the storm. Amazing. Bet you have a lot to clean up, Ann. I would not even know where to start.
