Itching Palms and Soles I have been having a non-rash itching of mostly the hands and feet. Has anyone every had itching of the palm(s) of the hand(s) or sole(s) of the feet? I thought I was allergic to the medication I was taking but it seems like it may not be that. Has anyone ever had a reaction like this to aspartame or Diet Coke, other foods with Nutrasweet or aspartame in it? I am wondering if that is what is causing the itching I have been having. I do drink a lot of Diet Coke |
I'm definitely not saying this is what it is or to scare you in anyway, but perhaps you should get a good bloodwork up if you've not already done so. A few years back my daughter it started out with itching on her hands and feet over time, it only got much worse. After several doc appts she was referred out to a kidney doc and they found she has a kidney disease that usually effects men more. I could be just allergy to something you not figured out yet, just saying a doc appt maybe in order. |
i get this my hands and my feet start peeling but are really itchy my doctor said its my hands and feet not getting enough oils so to treat them with my eczema cream this only happens in the summer ive had it for the last three years |
Well, I had extensive testing done and all tests of all kinds were WNL. I am thinking I'm noticing it happens more after I eat or drink something with aspartame type sweetener in it. I love Diet Coke and if I have several in a day, seems like that is when the itching happens. Benaryl helps it a lot. |
My mom is allergic to latex and that is what happened to her, itchy palms and soles of her feet, sooooo bad that she would scratch and it would crack and bleed. YIKES! It took allergen testing for the doctors to figure out what the heck she was allergic to! |

Have you ever been checked for diabetes? Both my husband and I are diabetics and have the itching on feet and ankles. |
Thanks for all of the replies and help. I started keeping a diary and am having the devil trying to tie the itching to anything directly. I take hydrocodone for severe arthritis pain but hate the way it makes my head feel so I only take tiny pieces of a single pill throughout the day and it takes about 12 - 20 hours to take a whole pill. I am noting that by evening, having taking some of that pill all day and apparently accumulating a blood level I guess, the itching starts. I don't usually take any of that Rx during the night so in the a.m. or most of the day don't itch. Wonder if it could be the accumulation of the pill by the end of the day that is causing the itching? Just taking some of the medication does not make me itch at the time or even a while afterward - just toward the evening. Course by the evening, I have had 3 or 4 Diet Cola's with aspartame so who knows? Benadryl does help the itching so it seems like it is allergy-related. Ugh! Anyway, thanks for the help! |
Cut out the Diet Cola for a few days and see if the itching continues. They recommend 2 weeks to get it out of your system. If it still itches that you know it's the pill you are taking. If it does not, you can probably guess it's the aspertame. Then you need to decide if you want to give it up or not. It does stink to have to give up something you love though. Ive never been a soda drinker, but I would almost give my right arm if someone told me to give up coffee! |
