Update on hubby *see other thread about him at er* The night I posted the other thread, he still would not go back to er. He even had an episode where he acted like he was drunk. We were playing cards by candlelight (we lost power that night and it just came on tonight due to a bad storm). I was crazy with worry, but could not get him to go back to er. Dtr and her boyfriend thought he would be ok till morning. Went to his reg dr the next morning. She also agreed that he was more than likely bleeding inside. Turns out what I did not know was he had been taking 4 ibruprofen for a hurt shoulder every so often. I knew he had been taking 1 or 2 a day but not that many. So she got him an gi scope scheduled that very afternoon. I had to ask for a wheelchair because I thought he was going to fall over. He had gotten to the point just walking a little made him dizzy. He has a huge (dr's word) ulcer. due to the ibruprofen he is sure. Dr sd not bleeding right now but prob has been for a couple of months. I need to watch him today (so may not go to work again), he is off work till at least tuesday after seeing his reg dr again. I could kill him for taking so much. I had warned him about using it everyday. oh, and he is going to ortho dr for his shoulder soon. Thanks for concern! |
I am so glad you got him to the dr and they found this. That is so scary! I don't know about ulcers, is he going to have to undergo any kind of treatment or will it heal on its own? Hopefully, he will not make this mistake again. Glad he is getting to an ortho about that shoulder too. |
So glad you found out what was wrong. They say to even take something to coat your stomach when taking perscription pain meds. An ulcer is nothing to fool around with. My grandmother died from a bleeding ulcer. Hope he listens and does what the doctor says. Thanks for updating. |
wow, glad that they were able to find out what was going on. Men are so pig headed when it comes to self diagnosis and medicating. It just drives me nuts when mine will sit and be miserable and make me miserable instead of going to the doctor to see what is wrong. |
He has to take a med that will put like a sealant on it, sort of a bandage for it. Also some for getting rid of acid on his stomach. He was on all liquid diet yesterday. He was starving. We had to go out to eat as we had no power due to storm and we to hibachi/sushi place. He ate 4 cups of soup. He can not take advil, aspirin, ibruprofen, etc ever again. Only tylenol. Less spicy foods and he likes spicy food. He goes back to reg dr monday for more blood work and sees stomach dr in 3 weeks. He has an appt with ortho this afternoon. How come when they try to get me an appt somewhere, it's usual a week or two before one is open, and him it's ok come in today or tomorrow? I can't help wonder what would have happened if he had not went to his dr yesterday morning? It could have been really bad. He sd if he had not gotten so dizzy, he prob would not have gone. He had no pain and unless he sees bright red blood, it doesn' worry him. MEN! |
I am so glad he was able to be seen right away by his regular doctor and she got his test done that day. I know what you mean about having to wait for appointments. Hope he heals quickly and feels better soon. |
oh, thank you for letting us know!! I was thinking about you this morning!! I am glad it is something you can deal with..take care |
Took him to ortho yesterday afternoon. His shoulder pain is what started the med taking. He got a cortisone shot. This was after he passed out in the xray room. Xray tech and nurse sd he needed to go back to er. Tech even sd he would push him in the wheel chair there (hosp was across the entrance road to med center). I told tech to have the dr say he needed to go. Dr asked him how he felt. Dh sd great right now but weak. Told dr he has appt with reg dr on Monday. He sd he should be ok till then. #%$$$# dr. Thanks a lot doc. |
How scary, glad they were able to figure out what has been going on. Sending prayers your DH can stay on the path to full recovery. |
Praying for better days for you & dh |
Oh my gosh! An ulcer! Those things can happen to anyone and they are not good in any way at all!!!! I'm so glad they figured it out and he is going to be on the road to recovery very soon! yay! |
Glad hubby is ok. I have one that is very stubborn also, he cut his leg with a chain saw years ago, me and my son came home and he was sitting in the recliner with a wet paper towel over his leg. He wouldn't go to ER said he didn't need stitches. Happy to see this I take Advil all the time for a bad knee and shoulder, guess it would be a good idea to quit while I can. Already take an aspirin for a blood thinner. Hope your husband continues to feel better, or at least that is what he will tell you. |
So glad to hear he is getting help...:D |
