Scandinavia?
 
So, I took my first trip to Europe last fall, and I am already looking forward to my next European trip June 2012 when I graduate.
We know we are taking one trip to Ireland & Scotland. We are looking at combining a second trip.
We are considering a tour to the Scandinavian countries (Norway, Sweden, Finland, & Denmark)
Has anyone been to these countries? I hardly ever hear about anyone traveling to this region and I'm curious for any feedback!

I loved Copenhagen so much! The Danish are wonderful people: happy, friendly, active, modern, fashionable. Not to mention gorgeous. And also very environmentally concerned/aware. Everyone walks/bikes everywhere. The architecture is cool - sparse/simple but ever so lovely to look at.

Maybe if you can, fly into Amsterdam and spend a couple/few days there. It's incredible. I've been there 3x and it's probably in my top 3 places I've ever visited. The Van Gogh museum is a real treat. Amsterdam is very charming, old-world architecture, houses along the canals. All the architecture was built up, up, up - instead of wide, bc taxes were charged by the width of a house, not height. The most lovely people I've encountered, by far, are the Dutch. So gracious, polite, friendly, and helpful. It seems like the majority speak English, and don't hesitate to do so for you (unlike some other countries, where they might sniff a little at this, lol).

I haven't been to Norway, Sweden, or Finland.

Oh wait, am I forgetting you went on that big trip w/ your Mom? If yes, then I think you already have been to Amsterdam...if so, then nevermind all the Amster stuff :).

LOL, yes that was me! We did spend a couple days in Amsterdam, and we loved it!

We were just watching an episode of House Hunters and they were moving from Sweden to Denmark, and it gave us the idea! Originally our second tour was returning to spend a week or so in London & Paris and do day trips.
Well all the bikes in Copenhagen would remind us of Amsterdam for sure! I've never seen so many in my life!
I guess we are just trying to figure out if these countries would have as much to offer. I'm not sure if anything could disappoint, it seems like everywhere in Europe has so much. I think that is the problem. I just need several months and lots of money, and then I could hit everywhere I want to go! :D

I have family in both Ireland & Scotland. My Dad is Scottish so I spent every summer holiday visiting my Grandma & Grandad there. Prettiest scenery of anywhere, IMO. I've many fond memories of climbing Ben Lomond and picniking by the River Clyde.

One of my childhood best friends moved to the Shetland Isles. When I visit her, she always wants to go to the city, so we take the ferry over to Bergen, Norway. Beautiful, bright coloured city with amazing shopping & nightlife.

My Mother's side of the family is Scottish and my Dad's is Irish. So I'm really excited about visiting both!
So how long of a ferry ride is that over to Norway?

It's a sleeper ride. We'd depart at dinner time, get served dinner on the ferry. Sleep in the cabin overnight and arrive about 7-8am in the morning...so I'm guessing 11-12 hours. I've been looking at different options. It seems like the logistics of flying to or from some of these countries would be quite daunting. Also considering some Baltic sea cruises.
I've been to a lot of the U.S., but there are still quite a few places I want to see. We have plenty of wonderful places here to travel to that's for sure!
The Grand Canyon is incredible! I want to see some of the other national parks!
