Have you dealt with frogs???? Tonite I let the babies out in the back yard to tee tee and first thing, Kayla finds a frog and bit it. She started shaking her head and gagging. I got them in the house and she was so sick. I rinsed her mouth out and called the emergancy vet and they said we did not have to bring her in unless she would not eat or drink. I gave her a bath and rinsed her mouth out again with water and usually always give them a couple of cherrios when they are good grooming. She did eat them and then I brought her in and gave her a bowl of water with ice, thinking that would entice her more to drink of it was cold. It did, and she did drink. Thank goodness. They said to watch her for a couple of hours to see if she just layed around and if she seem lathargic to bring her in. Has anyone ever dealt with this before. I just didn't know if frogs could be toxic to our little ones. |
I have no experience with Rosie and frogs. However I did find this link. Maybe it will give you some information. Poisonous Toads and Your Pet - Page 1 |
Thank you for the info. I read alittle about it after I called the emergancy vet. I was just worried. Kayla is alittle bigger than Dudley. He is only 4lbs. and I am so glad he didn't see it. She seems to be feeling better. She is walking around and seems alot better. If its not fleas, mosquitos or wasps, its frogs. ugh!!! Poor little babies can't hardly go out anymore. |

Girl I live in the country so I feel your pain! Our item of choice right now is squirrels. Rosie thinks she can take one! Thankfully, the frogs hang out around the pond instead of the house! :D |
We struggle with frogs......our Sailor has bitten or grabbed them several times and always starts foaming at the mouth.....very scary! We rinse her mouth out real good and normally within an hour is back to normal.....ready to go find the frog again. |
Oh, well I forgot about the squirrels. Then, on top of ever thing else we have a rabbit that has been coming out in our backyard. Dudley goes crazy. He looks so cute, getting up in the windows. The windows in the sunroom are low and he can put his front feet up on them and look out and bark bark bark at the rabbit. I told him the other day he didn't what to bother that. He doesn't realize that rabbit is bigger than he is. lol!!!! Well, with all the critters we have to put up with, I'm just glad my baby girl is okay. Watch her go look for the frog next time she goes out. Will they ever learn? No, these little yorkies think they can take on anything. lol!!! |

My husband calls it small dog syndrome! :D |
I have had several friends who had their dog DIE because they bit a frog/toad! In Florida if you live on a canal they are a problem. Please research the type of frog you have and be careful!!!! |
I live in Florida, the toad frogs here are very toxic and can kill our babies...Everytime I see one in my yard...it doesn't get away...I kill it!!! and I don't even feel bad.:D They are usually active as soon as the sun goes down and it starts to get dark...when I let my babies out at that time I check out the yard very good...be very careful. |

How scary!!!! |
I live in south Florida, on the coast...we have bufo frogs and they are very poisonous..my Yorkies do not ever go in the yard...they have a screen lanai and I use the stroller or walk them on the side walk only...seen too many people lose their pets...the poison is absorbed through the gums. SOOOO...it depends on what type of frogs...had a DOxie bite a Maryland toad once and all she did was foam at the mouth for about 15 mins...but if they are poisonous, they react very fast and go down. |

I live in Port st Lucie, not far from you...Hi neighbor :wavey: Yes...the bufo frogs/toad frogs, we call them...I never had any problem with them, until last year...now I see them all the time and I have a privacy fenced in yard...I did some research on them and they dig holes under patios, drive ways, your house...they are attracted to pools and I have a pool, and I live on a canal...so it was only a matter of time before I started having problems with them...wish I knew what we could do about them but there isn't any fix...I just KILL'EM when I see them. |
