Looking for a new camera
 

So it's about time to upgrade, my old camera is only 7 megapixels and like at least 3 years old. I need a camera that is easy to use and takes good action shots and is good for pet photography. It needs to be point and shoot though, as much as I would love an expensive fancy camera I am on a budget and would like to keep it under $200.
I do not want a sony or a cannon.
Any suggestions???

I have a Nikon Coolpix. It has 7x zoom and 14.2 megapixels. I think it does a good job. It is under $200. I think Nikon is a very good camera. I use it for Rosie's pictures all the time.

I love my Nikon but it is a lot more than $200. Nikon makes a great camera so I would check one of them out. Also look on Amazon....sometimes you can find great deals there.

I wish I had a Nikon like yours Tammie. I'd probably break it though, and it's way to much $$$. I got my mom a Nikon Coolpix for christmas and now I kinda wish I had kept it for myself :p but I didnt get to play with it too much before I left so I wasnt sure how good it was for pets. I do like the styling though.

Go to the camera stores and look around. Once you find one then go search amazon and see if you can find it cheaper. They have a lot of great sales there on camera's that are brand new. That is where I got mine from and saved about $400 on it and got a extra lens and additional battery.

I was looking at cameras online thinking about buying one. Talked myself into spending my money on a kindle this time though. Will ask for camera for christmas. I was looking at some of the refurbished ones at best buy. Looked like some good deals there and they have warranty

You should check out the Panasonic Lumix cameras. They are very nice. All point and shoot cameras have shutter lag, but you can avoid some of that by depressing the shutter halfway and prefocusing the shot. Most of my cameras are Nikons, and if I were looking for a point-and-shoot, I would consider them, the Panasonics, or Canons. Amazon is great, especially since you can return the camera if you use it and don't like it. I purchased my camera equipment from Buydig.com, which has excellent reseller ratings. B&H is also excellent. You have to be very careful with purchasing camera equipment, as many places are disreputable. I would try to stay at 10 megapixels or under. The more you have on a small sensor, the more noise or graininess you will have. The manufacturers are making them with more megapixels because consumers think they are better, and they are just responding to sell more cameras.

I know this is a lot of information, and I can clarify more if you are more specific about what you want in a camera. Most salespeople at many big box retailers give out a lot of information that's inaccurate, and they don't know much about the cameras. I would first determine what I wanted a camera to do, and then I'd read reviews of them. I'd be happy to help if you need it.
